How do you remove the steering wheel?
This may seem like a stupid question but how do you remove the steering wheel from a MKIII escort?
I've removed one before. Undo the centre nut on the steering wheel and then just down to shear force. Is this the right way and only way? I've tried to remove the one on my new car and it won't budge. Is there a tool you can buy to assist or is there another way that I don't know about? Help need, its doing my :wall: in |
Brut force -or a hub-puller can be bought :top:

Hub puller?
How much are hub pullers roughly. Can I get them at my local Halfords?
Cheers, MIKE |
F*ck knows!
Probably, I always pull 'em off. Loosen the nut, but leave it on and yank for your life. :D |
Steering wheel
I must be getting weak with my old age. I'm only 22, god help me.....
I fitted it to my previous S1 and did the change over within 5mins. Can't do it to save my life this time  |
:hammer: smash it.

Just don't forget to take off the steering lock first. Othervise it should come out easy.
|
as above u need the keys in the ignition and at least on the 1st position., if you don't you will break it

defo the steering lock, catches a lot of people out, not me of course.........
Anyway, leave the nut on a couple of threads and persuade it off using a soft mallet (be carfule not to leave marks on the wheel). This is how i did it. |
keys in ignition so steering lock is off and just bang with ur fist on ethier side of the wheel till it lossens and then pull it off, works every time :top:
