2wd cossie 4 pots

dose anyone know if it is possible to fit the 2wd cossie 4 pots and standard cossie disks to a s2 escort rs? :? iv heard the will fit straight on with longer bolts and aew washers?? has anyone done this befor? thanks :top:

antony215 13-10-2007 10:36 PM

The 2wd 4 pots need some machining done (about 4mm) to the caliper the 4wd calipers are the one that just need washers and bolts to fit.

<____ALEX____> 14-10-2007 01:46 PM

hmmm i see :? . are the 4 pot lot better than the 4x4 calipers?

tabetha 14-10-2007 02:12 PM

4wd brakes are shite 2wd are ace.
4wd belong on a bicycle 2wd on a car.
4wd cossie brakes no better than any other single piston type of the same size, ie mondeo etc.

As tabetha says there not really worth the work if you want a quick cheap upgrade then just get the brakets and fit 2wd disks and keep your s2 calipers they will work just as good as the 4wd calipers.

<____ALEX____> 15-10-2007 11:56 AM

can you tell me where i can find some brakets to mount the 2wd calipers??

<____ALEX____> 15-10-2007 12:08 PM

actually,do i even need brakets??? i just been reading the rs bible and it dose not say anything about brakets he just mentions about machineing the face of the calliper 4mm to fit the standard cossie disc? whats that about?? i cant go any bigger than standard cossie disk size as im still using 15" rs wheels. :?

tabetha 15-10-2007 12:21 PM

If you are using rst brackets/brakes then you will need bracket to space out, if using 4wd cos then you don't need brackets.

The 4 pots need 4mm machined of the face the hubs redrilles and tapped to m12, aslo the will not fit under the standard wheels without spacers they foul on the back of the spokes.

hmmm well i think for now i may just do what antony215 said and use my calipers and the bigger disks.dose anyone know where i can get hold of some mounting brackets for this???

SafeChav 16-10-2007 11:27 AM

You don't need brackets no.

You have to have the caliper machined as said, then you have to tap the hubs out to an M12 thread and get some high tensile cap head bolts to fasten them.

The biggest problem with this upgrade is the brake pipe connections, as when fitted they point out directly at the CV joints so you can't use normal brake pipes.

antony215 16-10-2007 01:01 PM

This is what you want if your keeping your s2 calipers and fitting cosworth 2wd discs

If you buy this months Fast Ford they have done a step by step on how to fit cosworth caliper to an Escort.

<____ALEX____> 18-10-2007 09:47 AM

thanks guys, gunna give it a go,do ya recon they will make alot of difference?

SafeChav 18-10-2007 02:03 PM

4 pots should make a very noticeable difference :top:

<____ALEX____> 19-10-2007 12:27 PM

good good. at the moment im running black diamond drilled/groved disks and ebc greens and they still fade loads.replaced all the fluids and still dose it? so i think it shal have to be bigger disks.

SafeChav 19-10-2007 09:56 PM

Try using BETTER fluid, if your getting fade changing the calipers isnt going to solve that!

Thats more than likely the fluid boiling.

:? Thought you were doing the front not the back???????

<____ALEX____> 20-10-2007 09:44 AM

i am doing the front. just thinking on what i will need to do the back aswell. ;)

antony215 20-10-2007 09:57 AM

Id leave the standard drums on mate there just as good having discs on the back can cause all sorts of problems

<____ALEX____> 20-10-2007 10:27 AM

yer i herd that it can cause trouble mate,if i were to change them it would only be for looks to be honest so dont really need em

SafeChav 20-10-2007 01:34 PM

discs are easier to work on than the drums but the conversion can be a bit of a headache, if you're going to do it get brackets that mount the calipers at 12 o'clock that will make it considerably easier all round.

<____ALEX____> 20-10-2007 01:38 PM

yer iv got the dimensions for brakets that sit a 12o clock possition, dosent that have summin to do with when you bleed them? how thick do you recon the brackets should be? iv got the dimensions for everything else just not the thickness, bout 150mm????

SafeChav 22-10-2007 10:41 AM

It makes them easier to bleed and also stops the handbrake cable being a tight stretch.

150mm???? :? If/when you strip the drums off refit the bearing housing and measure the distance between that and and the hub, and then subtract off say 1mm for clearance, and that will be about as thick as you can have them really.

mikemcc03 29-10-2008 07:27 PM
