Could someone please help me i have Escort LX. Been modified a little bit. Problem is when me driving and i stop the revs go low and it cuts out and then i gotta start it up again. I have changed the Spark plugs and Spark leads and i can't figure out what the problem is. I am not good with cars but if someone can tell me what the problem is i can get it sorted. If someone know the problem please message me or reply thanks.

When i start it up it runs fine, but some times when you leave it the revs go under one then it sparks back up it self, or sometimes it just cuts out i don't understand.

 

try gapping ur spark plugs ur self its worth a try just seems strange that when u change them thats when things went wrong..

 

what do you mean gapping the spark plugs. No it happened before thats why i changed the spark plugs and spark leads. and now i think its the idle vavle not sure though.

Ok so i am going to change my idle valve tmoz and ifs not that i will post again but if there anyone else out there that knows that its not idle valve please do let me know thnks

 

Try cleaning the idle speed valve with carb cleaner.

i have just done that its still the same, what else could it be if its not the idle valve. Just out of curiosity where can i get a engine re-built from ?

 

had an escort gti similar problem defo idle speed control valve

 

try replacing it rather than cleaning it as i did this also to no avail

 

So if i change the idle valve it will not cut out anymore ???.

 

it may cure it then again maybe not but atleast your eliminating things

Yep sure will. Will post tmoz to see if its that. Another problem i have is i have a K&N Filter and its not sucking enough air in and on the meter inside the car it goes just under red ?

 

BDW guys how much is it for a Escort 1.4 LX engine to get it re-built ??

 

hi m8 dont get the engine rebuilt as it will cost more than the car is worth im sure you can find a good runner out of a nother car and drop it in

If this is a CVH engine it probably means the breather system is blocked up with solidified oil where it enters the bottom of the inlet manifold.

Try cleaning the breather system right out.

Is this car carb, cfi or efi?

 

buy a zetec its cheaper

 

How can i tell if the car carb is cfi or efi ?

 

What year/shape escort is it?

 

if it is efi it may be the MAF. mass airflow sensor. if this is not functioning the ECU will not know the amount of air entering the engine there fore cannot give the correct fuel amount, in your case it could be playing up thinking your engine is at high revs past the limiter, where the fuel is then cut off, and as this happens and it is at low revs i could stall the engine.

but please, what escort is it? send a pic if poss.

 

Its a N reg 1995 escort 5 dr its a LX. i found what it could be. You know the Air Flow meter which if connected to air filter when u dissconnect that engine runs smoolthy cuts out here and there. But when i connect it back in it runs shit, you can hear it, it wants to cut out, but keeps it sparked again then finaly it cuts out lol. i am going to change theair flow meter, and if its not that i dunno what to do so someone please ehlp me :<
