I think that is what they are called anyway? Anyway, this bit here...

So, what I am planning is to vent the extra port on this separator here...

Down to the push fitting that this hose would normally connect to...

To carry out the above I obviously would be doing away with the plastic part with the red cap and then connect the vacuum line to the top of the dump valve to the port on the inlet manifold where small dia hose would normally connect (with a different conector in place).

So does this cause any trouble or is the part not needed in Escort conversions??

Second question is...can I just remove the whole flame trap all together and fit an alloy connector in its place like this one but straight type as against 90 degree...

What is the purpose of a flame trap anyway?

Your last photo is how I was running my breather. Worked for me.

yep, you can remove it.


it is not a 'flame trap' merely just a oil seperator (just a smaller version than the uprated aftermarket breather/seperator you are aboutto fit.

removing it allows the engine to breathe more easilly and reduces the risk of blowing a rear mainor front bottom pulley seal due to excessive crankcase pressure caused by blow by.

ideally you need to vent from both sides of the block,, theer is a nothe port on the turbo side, under the exhaust manifold, (the knock sensor bolts to it on a cat car.)

Dave, yes I know about the second pint for breathing so will eventually tap into this also. Now you say the set upworks better with this bit removed I will dig out the old NA bits I have laid about and get venting!

for your info, BigDave, the thread in the block on the driver's side for the other breather pipe is 3/8 x 18 NPT

just a bung normally. these are the 2 poins you should connect your breather to :)

Dave, is it normally not the bung/bolt you see just up and left of the one I have in pic one? I bought the last one from GGR and they said it was this one that was removed.

Which one is the better then? Or no difference?
