Default Brake Calliper identification help please!

I'm trying to get a replacement brake calliper (see pics below). I'm having trouble because none of the motor factors around here can get me the same one. The calliper is of a 1998 V6 Mondeo with the 278mm discs and has a 60mm diameter piston. Some people have said that this is the same as the cosworth ones? i think there may also be two different callipers types used on the 278mm disc models aswell as the different callipers on the 260mm models.

Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance

Alan

Calliper has these strange fin type things on the back:

Hi,

This looks exactly like my Mondeo V6 one.
Try eBay or scrapyards... I see a lot of them.
As far as I know there is only one kind of 278mm Mondeo V6 caliper.
Some places list two kinds because there are some V6 with 260mm brakes... (post 97 I think)

The V6 calipers are not exactly the same as 4x4 Cosworth ones, similar but not the same. The pads and discs are interchangable.

Cheers for the advice guys,
i'll have to keep my eyes peeled for another calliper as scrap V6 mondeos with the same brakes seem to be a bit thin on the ground up here. Dont really want to go to Ford because of the expense!

regards

Alan

nah its not a V6 Mondeo one, its to small, the mondeo V6 caliper is almost identical to a cossie one. I say its a smaller one of a smaller engined escort or fiesta.

Hmmm...
Having a second look, may be Mikey is right.
You sure your caliper is from a 278mm set?

yes it look like the mondeo one,
i have had these before on an escort.
the cossie ones are the same, the only difference i can see is the cossie ones use 10mm bolt size and the mondeos use 12mm.
i have a pair of these kicking about in my barn,
pm me if your still stuck.

These callipers are almost twice the size of my original fiesta callipers. I removed the callipers from a mondeo V6 with 278mm discs myself. So I know that they are the 278mm V6 calliper. I didnt know if early models differed to later models etc. I just wondered if there was any other information i could offer the geezer at the counter when i order one because they cant seem to get the right ones with the information I have.

Thanks for now

Cheers
Alan
