COMETIC Multi-layer gaskets

Hi all

Anyone got any experience with the above? I have just blown my Gp A Head Gasket after all of 9k miles!!

Running quite high boost - approx 26psi, and as such need to replace with an uprated item. Cometic multi layer much cheaper than WRC Multi-layer. Is this good enough for the pressure I am running? Or should I cough up the massive amount of extra dosh?!¬?!

Help!?

Ta

JJ

u cant reuse them as the viton coverings come away when you split them down - -a word of warning tyhough (learn from others mistakes; ie me ;) ) unless both the head and block are 100% flat and smooth and clean - it wont make a good seal and your 150 quid for the gasket and 25 for the bolts will have just been wasted :(

here is what happens when u take it apart again.. there should be no bare metal exposed

Cool

the GP A gasket had only a soft failure. All surfaces will be checked for flatness before re-assembly.

Most important thing to find out is that the cometic was up to the job.

Not to worried about re-using - hopefully wont need to dissassemble for a while! (Fingers crossed)

it dont matter about the coating mate mines still good on its second use

My cometic has been good so far but i had the block decked & head skimed before fitting.

Simon.

Hmm

I had the engine totally rebuilt less than 10k ago, and the head gasket failure I have had is a soft failure (leak) rather than hard failure (overheat).

I am hoping not to have to skim head again, though will measure and decide on the day!

Thanks one and all for the advice given

JJ
