madness

but for that sort of money you either need/want it with that low milage for a collection or storage or its been bidded up otherwise you'd just buy a cheaper one and restore for less.

Afterall, milage is just a number

The lower that mileage the higher its value, thats what a lot of people are obsessed about unfortunately. Look at any cars that have made mega-money at auctions and the majority are very low mileage minters.

I know a bloke that trades in fairly unusual rare cars, some less so, but some of the prices advertised are surprisingly high, like a 13k miles M3 CSL for Ł67k.

But as is the case with this Saff, go find another in such original low mileage condition. You'll struggle.

The seller must think it's worth more than it is.

You are not kidding!! There must be a lot of very well off people out there.I reckon the seller wants Ł50k for it! There is another mint looking Saff with only just over 22000 miles on it with a projected auction price of Ł26 to Ł28k also on E-Bay. Almost looks a bargain compared to this one!!!!!
Makes mine with an agreed value of Ł23k seem about right.

I agree on the saph engine bays looking seriously untidy. Love the look of the engine but everything round it lets it down.

So anyone know the final selling price of that one at classic central auction as the auction was today?

This was a rwd which arguably is more desired and only had an extra 9000 miles on the clock and looked a nice one too.

Do you mean compared to a modern car where all you can see is plastic covers or other classic cars? I am biased of course but I dont think mine looks untidy.

I'm just going to throw this out there, best modern classic engine bay has to be a redtop cavalier gsi or a turbo redtop gsi.
Gearbox lets it down aesthetically but I think those cars have a tidy bay.
Impreza's are terrible but they aren't made to look pretty.

Saying having 1000bhp and actually having 1000bhp is 2 different things

Rods car is on other planet compared to any other cosworth.

It's like comparing a 9mm to a Ak47

Cossie engine does look minted, very easy on the eye and mounted the correct way. Can't knock it for messy wiring loom when you compare it to other cars where you can't see fuck all really.

Each to their own

It is not to bad really as I dont let it get very dirty before I clean it. Solvol Autosol for the alloy and S/steel parts and Autoglym show/and/shine for the paintwork.
I hate seeing dirty, oily, rusty engine bays. There was a RS500 in for a service where I go and it looked like the engine bay had not been cleaned for 20years!
It was a Ł45+K value car but it looked rough to me.

Yeah I know that but I just don't get spending that mental amount just because something has a low milage, I'd rather have something that had either been used or restored. When something is sitting around unless its done right then the bushes/hoses etc will need looking at and probably other issues. I suppose there are people out there who want cars with this low milage just so that they can open the garage up and say to someone I own this low milage ornament.

And with regards to the engine bays, r5gt turbo's had quite a packed engine bay from memory

You have a choice between an old granny, a middle age woman who's had plastic surgery of the fanny because it was hanging touching the floor or a nice fresh 18 year old virgin who's had a couple of fumbles and a finger, which would you choose ? lmfao

When you are talking about spending the sort of crazy money this Saff is up for it will either be going into someones private collection and probably never turn a wheel again or its purely for an investment to sell on again in 15 years or more at double what its "worth" now. The likelyhood of it being properly used as a road car again is pretty remote.
