Default Will these wheels alter my MPH?

I have bought some Jag X-Type 18" wheels. Tyre size is 225/40/18. Original wheels were 205/50/17's. Will having these bigger wheels make my speedo read incorrectly?

Also, would I be right in thinking handling and braking will be better due to having 225's instead of 205's thus more tyre on the road?

It's not the wheel size that changes the speedo it's the tyre circumference. Those tyres are near as dammit the same size circumference so you shouldn't notice it.

Handling and braking again will be down to the tyres to a large degree, could be better, could be worse.
Handling could also be made worse by a bigger heavier wheel giving you more unsprung mass.

Stick them on and find out is probably the best way.
