Having sold the mk2 fiesta recently I fancied a motor for the summer, so at the weekend I picked this little stunner up!
Mk5 XR3i cabriolet, 130 spec! all leather interior, all the electrics etc. She drives nice and even nicer with the top down, the sun on my balding head haha.
Nice motor this. They cant be many mk5 escorts about these days let alone cabbys.
You will find most escorts left are cabbys as they had to put in extra metal due to the lack of a roof.
Very nice car, looks in good shape apart from the soft top.
Had the same idea a couple of years ago and bought a mk6 but the grand daughter grabbed it so I didn't get to drive it much. I fitted lowering springs but found with anybody in the back it would bottom out so leave it as is but I also fitted a stainless exhaust and st170 front brakes which worked
Don't know if they changed it but the mk5's had design flaws, they always rotted through the floor and along the sills (inner and outer) in the front foot wells and also the petrol filler holes would go from the inside out.
I remember having a scab on the filler hole on my mk5 and having a dig around and ended up with a gaping hole with nothing left round the filler neck same with the floor pan, once I'd removed all the rust I had a flinstone car.
That reminds me, when my car got shunted from behind from a mk4 Mondeo, the rear chassis legs had also rotten and just snapped under the strain
