Cheers, the problem with most fire blankets is yes it's good at suppressing flames but it's not fluid proof and petrol remains fluid until all most burnt off so it soaks through it.there are a few products that are fluid proof but are expensive, I used pyrogel witch is only available in a full roll and cost Ł5000 a roll so pretty much out the question for most situations,i hope my boss dosent read this,i liberated some offcuts.i then draped normal 1260 degree blanket around. It depends on how you have the tank and firewall as to what product is best,as far as mot is concerned I think ther just has to be a solid barrier between ocupents and tank but I'd rather be safe,if you let me know how it's going and rough size ill see what I have lying around, cover the postage n it's yours

Just had a thought. iv put the fuel tank in the boot then firewall all round it.then covered with lexan shelf that's bolted down, this dosent fit past the roll cage so gets fitted through the quarter light window gap then windows go in.my point is during an mot do they have to inspect the fuel tank because they won't be able to get to it to view it without removing the window and un bolting the shelf.dout an mot inspector would go to that much trouble so would they just fail it or pass it as no visabl fuel leaks. Anyone's thoughts?

Ha nice one I've just come in from doing some bodywork on it ,realised the front wheel catches the gearbox because I've used the mondeo gearbox and the corsa steering rack I've used is slightly sharper turning circle than the original fiesta one,new spacers ordered to see if that cures it and if not strip the rack and incorporate new stops, you think this is mad?wait until I start my new project when this is finished, I'm thinking a mid engined v12 mk1 escort or skyline powered nova, just got to keep off eBay whilst drinking otherwise god knows what the next one will be. Dream car is a 67 fastback mustang but the wife n kids keep spending my money.

Anybody know a decent painter that wont take the p with the price, within trailorin distance from cannock, Staffordshire, I could do it at work in the booth but they paint incinerators in there so it's filthy n would take forever to clean out

I have compressor and nice paint guns, if you notice early on in the post all the painting so far has been done by me,the outside however needs to be painted in a clean temperature controlled environment as I can't be doing with bits all in the paint because it just owes me too much to make a poor job of it at this stage, but I do see your point, under normal circumstances I'd paint it myself, I'm allso really busy at work so time isn't on my side

Cheers, it's nice seeing it come together, I'd have liked it to be finished by now but it's hard to find the cash when you have a wife n kids to support, I don't want to compromise on quality so it's going to have to take as long as it takes but at least I'll be proud that iv worked hard for it

nothing good comes quickly, it takes time.
If/when you do the escort or nova project can you put up some threads. I love this sort of thinking and really interested to see these progress

Yeah, will do. It's the escort I really want to do but they fetch strong money even in poor condition and if im honest if I were to mid engine it I'd love to go something crazy n Italian, or if up front big and American

Turned the car port into a spray booth n the mrs went mad when she got back, apparently this is not normal behaviour, well sorry love it is to me! Who's with me boys?

7 coats of 2k solid n no extractor so I guess it's to be expected, main thing is the car shines like glass but I do have some runs to flat out but thers plenty of paint on so should be o.k

Lmao, nice one,I'm still in the dog house but at least she doesn't live a boring life married to me lol,I'm scared to tell her iv got the bonnet, doors n boot to still paint, anyone got a spare room just in case?

it wouldn't be normal if you weren't acting like that !
good job on this one .
after the whole boring part of cover up everything she's getting there. keep it going mate!
at his time i got place for one down here, but it'd look hard if you were commuting to work.
if you're on holiday, it's another talk... (not joking, it's my house. just bring some beer).
but it might be cheaper for you trying with a bouquet of nice flowers first, they fix almost anything .

Tbh it falls on deaf ears with me anyway, I just laugh at her cuz it really infuriates her.the paint is like glass,I'm really happy with the shine but f me thers some decent runs, ill try the stopper over the run first trick before flatting n polish, 7 coats of solid so might get away with them,if not no biggie as I have loads of paint

Just read through this.. A LOT of work has gone into that shell alone, and that's just from the the photos you've posted. A serious project and I think time and effort you've put in is clearly showing.
Keep going, will be good to see it finished and running.

Thank you,its had a lot done to the shell,it's all the bits you can't see that takes the time, making them pretty is the easy bit.iv lost count on the spend and hours put in but it's all about the fun of it,
