And when they were banned, no one bothered to then run a basic query that takes 10 seconds to write on the database that would have instantly removed ALL the pm's sent to people BEFORE they opened them at work.

As the damage in that respect did NOT stop last night when they were banned.

If IB are going to be responsible service providers, this isnt acceptable IMHO when laziness on their part results in potentially thousands of their users opening hardcore porn at work, rather than IB running a simple query.

Well they didnt need to, as the (potentially as many as) hundreds of PM's they sent werent deleted, so their message still got across, just banning the user was like noticing your house is on fire, and going and removing the burning chip pan, but not putting the fire out that is spreading, ie totally pointless.

Rubbish!
A new email address and a new ip address, and delete their cookies, and straight back on, NOTHING in the admin panel that stops that, unless you start preventing new users from posting PM's and even then, the bot can just sit and wait, its not like they get bored, unless you start insisting on a certain postcount before you let PM's be sent (which isnt ideal but would do)

Maybe admin would care to do a Google for keymachine.de and banning their IP addresses is also a useful "security" tweak

But then again what I say is :-

RS2000Custom, you've grossly underestimated what bots are capable of, but yes what you are saying is a kind of half solution.

Not going to get into an internet geek-off about it, bottom line is IB need to implement a policy to prvent this, either just using some of the little hacks you are on about that kind of work, or actually implementing a decent solution, I dont much care how they do it, but they need to do something.

Regards

Chip

I have no understanding of a bots capability I work for myself as an MOT tester and mechanic and am self taught on computers

But what I do understand is the tweaks I have found or thought of have reduced bot attacks on my website to

NIL

yes thats correct

NIL

and I aint no geek - lol lol lol

Tweaks amongst others I carry out are

IP address monitoring

singular e-mail address registration (no multiple users on 1 e-mail)

aggressive IP address banning of know spammers

Moderation of all new members

plus others I have mentioned before (time zone, minimum post etc)

Big difference is I know I do not have as many members as PF BUT I do not charge either

Not really a scalable solution

Indeed, that is the big difference. As some of what you have done isnt really scalable, although still possible if they could find enough users who cared enough to join in with the moderation.

The person/s would have to have Admin status albeit a restricted level though but would have thought some on here would do it to ensure this doesnt happen again

What I meant to say earlier about NIL attacks I meant I have NIL spamm bot activity on the BB - I still get attack attempts but my security levels stops them getting onto the BB

Im sure you do, but as Ive already mentioned, but you dont seem to be able to grasp, its not so simple to scale such a manual process up to a larger forum, as its an admin overhead and hence a cost.
But some of what you have done would work on some bots.

Based on current admin acitivities yes.

If the activities were to drastically increase, then I guess the fee would.

I think its 10 quid not 20 quid though?

Yep I stand corrected it is a tenner

Maybe the banner advertisers would like to pay for the priviledge of their banner ads then ?

PF has got to find a way of reducing the risk of spam bot attacks

Id be more interested in them doing it in the software for peanuts than requiring a continual manual effort to maintain it.

Banner ads are paid for already.
