hi all ! My RS2000 4x4

hi all, another newbie to the forums, what better was to introduce myself than with a few pics of my new motor! my just bought escort rs2000 4x4

finally an RS owner! im sure a few of you will recognise the car too from previous owners over the years. Shes in pretty good condition, the dreaded rust has crept in at the usual places expected with escorts, so its off to the bodyshop this weekend to get those sorted out. Once thats done il be booking her in for a rolling road session to see what needs tweaking.
my plans for the car are to restore to as near standard condition as possible, i think my days of heavy horsepower modding are past me!

a bit about myself if anybody cares
name stuart
age 32
job roofer
area south east london

back to the car!
i will no doubt be on here looking for parts and selling parts too, already on the prowl for a decent set of rs2000 alloys that will replace the ford 7 spokes eventually.

cheers,

stuart

That looks really clean and rather lush

stu20004x4 19-08-2013 04:57 PM

cheers mate from a distance you cant see the minor faults in the paintwork but yeah a lovely colour. been told the wheels are quite rare too tempted to leave them on and store the rs2000 wheels when i get some :D

hardasrs 19-08-2013 05:29 PM

very nice mate, get yourself on www.rs2000-16v.com. for all info and help on them.

Fordmad! 19-08-2013 05:55 PM

Wheels are rare if you sell them pm me!

Id leave them on if was you suits them well

stu20004x4 19-08-2013 06:02 PM

yeah i think they look better than the originals. had a few offers for the wheels already, all different lol. how much do you reckon theyre worth? i wont be sellimg them anytime soon

Fordmad! 19-08-2013 06:05 PM

Are they 17s? If they are and decent tyres/condition etc be worth upto £600

stu20004x4 19-08-2013 06:10 PM

yeah mate 17s and the tyres are almost new yokohamas. took it to a garage to get tracking done and one of the lads there nearly cum in his pants when he see em, said the tyres new cost 140 each and offered me 1k there and then for them! got the spare aswell with a never used tyre on lol

Fordmad! 19-08-2013 06:38 PM

Yeah if they are mint with a spare aswell with good tyres hes not far off with 1k id sell them for a grand cash lol

stu20004x4 19-08-2013 06:40 PM

i nearly did lol, but i thought if theyre worth that now, in a few years time they can only be worth more. nice little investment, only paid 2k for the car :D

CrOwSoN15 19-08-2013 06:41 PM

That looks lovely, not many 4x4's around! £2k is a bargain for one too.

STeve 19-08-2013 07:20 PM

Good to see my old 4x4 has found a new good home, will be keeping an eye on this for sure and your on the right forum for a start so :top:, shame owners after me have removed the nicer OE items that were fitted when I sold it, hope it still has the decat and powerchip fitted

cossiejay 19-08-2013 07:34 PM

stu20004x4 20-08-2013 06:40 PM

i look forward to putting the two cars together at some point, be a great photo opertunity :) cant wait to get her looking good again, had to tear off the door trim yesterday as it was flapping about and catching the front wing when i opened the door :( someone had fixed it with mastic! all be good after the weekend though.

not sure on the chip etc yet mate im not the most clued up when it comes to engine/performance mods, will get my pal to look it over at the weekend and let you know. will get a pic of engine bay up tomorrow too.

the ecu is in the passenger side kick panel and I did fit a decent collins powerchip in it so I can only hope its still there s it ran like a dream with that fitted, as for the 2 cars together me and john did do this a few years back at a meet, I cant find my memory chip with the pics on but john may have some still, our 4x4s were at fords centenary day at dunton

you can see your one 2 cars behind johns

Geez i saw this car just after 1-pd got it and it was not far off being broke as it was bad, steves hard work saved this car from the scrap yard as it shows in your photos

st220kyle 20-08-2013 08:41 PM

nice car :top:
wish there was more like that available

stu20004x4 20-08-2013 09:37 PM

i definately got lucky with this one, the one i was originally going to buy that day turned out to be past saving due to major rust issues, only found this one on the way home :D

stu20004x4 25-08-2013 03:38 PM

full respray has begun! didnt know there were so many shades of moondust silver to choose from. what i really need now are center caps for rs2000 wheels. do ford still make them as ideally id like new ones?

blueovalman 25-08-2013 03:48 PM

There is a red 4x4 near me, needs a little tlc from what I can see , its a shame that im not in a position to save it

STeve 25-08-2013 03:58 PM

if memory serves me right I think they are no longer made but some dealers like fordpartsuk hold older and obsolete stock so I would try there first stu

stu20004x4 25-08-2013 04:35 PM

cant find em anywhere :( do you reckon if i got the wheels colour matched i could get four old ones resprayed? not sure on how they would look. clutching at straws lol

stu20004x4 08-12-2013 08:39 PM

for a while now i have noticed an oil leak coming from somewhere. i soon realised there was a split in the power steering hose. Luckily old rustys hose was in fine order and alrady removed, so today i jacked up the moondust via the chassis in order to get an axle stand on the jacking point. as i lowered her down though i heard the familiar sound of weak rusty metal getting crushed so i quickly jacked back up and put a stand under the chassis. looks like new sills will be required! going to have to get ther sideskirts off next weekend and check behind both, but what with the amount of work old rusty the red requires, i could have done without finding more rust on moodust!
going to have to buy a silent genny and a mig welder, anybody got any suggestions as to what models i should go for? i dont even know how much this stuff costs.

Going to be needing alot of mk6 body parts aswell, keep an eye out for us please chaps!

Lee Grout 08-12-2013 09:11 PM

Lovely car mate. Shame about the rust but they all get em, especially in behind side skirts! You can get a welder new on ebay, (Sealey i think is ok, not that i know anything bout em' lol) Bout £120. I wanted to learn to weld so may pick one up one day.

stu20004x4 08-12-2013 09:24 PM

cheers mate, ive got a pal who has done some welding in the past, and im a lead welder/roofer, so i reckon i could pick it up fairly quickly

STeve 08-12-2013 09:27 PM

always the way with with bodykits on fords, looks like the weather must have crept in over the last few years since I sold it

stu20004x4 29-12-2013 04:01 PM

replaced the split power steering fluid hose on the old girl a few weeks back, recently realised the horn is now not working. checked all the fuses and theyre ok, going to check connection next incase it got knocked loose or something.

can someone tell me where the horn is located in the engine bay? think its behind the front bumper, what bits do i need to take off to access it chaps?

STeve 29-12-2013 04:03 PM

if you look underneath you will see it above the plastic splash guard thats got perferations, no need to touch bumper as full access is from underneath also stalks control the horn btw

Fordmad! 29-12-2013 04:04 PM

If its the same as my mk6 then just behind bumper id check the earth for the horn

Mk4 Rick 29-12-2013 04:14 PM

Lovely looking motor

stu20004x4 29-12-2013 04:36 PM

ah nice one steve, was hoping it would be an easy access situation. going to check the earth whil im down there, if its all connected i guess my next place to check will be the stalks. the hazards are working, i thought the two were run off the same block on the stslk?

stu20004x4 29-12-2013 04:36 PM

cheers rick, shes hiding a few dirty secrets ;)
