bwarrrrrrp

Heater still doesnt get red hot like cars should it gets abit hotter than luke warm id say which is better than it was anyways, i think the sheer size of my radiator and my coolant hose setup i dont think i could ever get it red hot

Don't think i've mentioned it in here only on Facebook... first trackday of the year booked for 2 weeks today at Oulton Park for the first one of the year, just hope this bloody freezing weather has passed by then!

can't wait to test the new brake set up and with the extra power from the cams on track, then i'll decide what i want to do Gearbox/LSD wise!

So... Oulton park tmoz!

Car cleaned, all fluid levels bang on as always, tank and both jerry cans full, car packed with wheels n tools etc, it's funny how its no lower than normal with 100kgs+ more weight over the rear wheels, 450lb springs ftw!

It's mad as im just as excited about tmoz as i was for my first trackday 2 1/2years ago lol

Unfortunatly no vids this time but afew mates took aload of pics!

Day went well, got some brilliant sesions in in the afternoon when it was totally dry line after being went for the first 2-3hours! car was brilliant yet again only thing was the wheel bearing finally gave up and collapsed, its been humming/vibrating for ages but ive been putting it off changing it so now it needs doing as theyres like 10-20mm play lol, at least i got it home! also need uprated brake fluid as the pedals spongey again but the brakes themselves were brilliant and no vibrating dash anymore, winner!

sounds like you had a good day mate, really enjoy seeing the progress of this car

problems you mention are not anything serious at all and i suppose its all trail and error until you find the right fluids/balance etc

how did the car handle on the new springs? and also how was the new engine map?

car handled mint, same as in november but i just stiffened the fronts up more than then, the maps spot on, was JUST touching the limiter in 4th on 2 of the straights at oulton int he afternoon when it was totally dry, never used to on standard cams, can defo tell its quicker too on track, had lots of people come upto me throughout the day asking about the car etc

few snaps, car looks like its doing a wheelie out of druids where it drops down hill slightly and gets all light

if the brakes were good till the wheel bearing started to develop play you will prob fine fluid is ok its just the movement is pushing the pistons back try to see if it gets worse after a corner

Cheers guys!

well bearing and hub flange changed, the bearing literally came out in bits everywhere when i pulled it off the driveshaft lol, hammered the old races out the hub, went to knock the new ones in and they went in wayyyy to easy, turned out they are i think mk3 bearing, thanks ebay...

so rang around luckily found a place that had a mk2 one in stock, got that, all fitted back together, camber adjusted/set to max again, tracking altered to suit both sides towing out a tad, all is well no more humming/vibrating from the N/S/F

brakes bled as normal, lots of air in as usual after a trackday, i just bled them as normal and just topped the reservoir up with dot 5.1

Car ticked over 114k the other day, the same day it gave me a head ache...

went to drive the car, after letting it warm up i then turned my lights on, to find my rear washer going, so i just unplugged the pump so i could drive it...

then after a few mins of driving something blew the fuse and all my interior lights apart from the rear fogs and rear screen demister, and one rear tail light and rear number plate stopped working... FFSAKE!

swapped the fuse, had a wiggle with all the wires, checked all the earths including the one behind the clocks, all are well...

the fuse it blew is the left front side lights, heater panel, rear number plate and rear washer...

heaters fine, front side lights fine, just when i turn my lights on the pump for the washer bottle is on, the washers work fine without the lights on...

drove it again yesturday after swapping the 10amp fuse for a 15amp, blown another 2, its sounds like theres something buzzing/rubbing sometimes up front like a belt rubbing, but nothing is rubbing, hoping it isnt a wire shorting out somewhere as i cant find where its coming from!

earlier in the week to try sort the electrical problem out i got new stalks, tried them and was still pumping the washers... so checked the wires where they route to the rear of the car and they had caught in the rear qtr with a wood screw when refitting the rear arch the other week as it was hanging off, whatever screw i wouldve used it wouldve caught it as the wires were trapped in an awkward postion, wood screw ftw!

Passed MOT today with no advisories!

Took me a while to read this from start to finish, but well worth it, had a fair share of downs, but going to be expected even if it was a new car, doing harsh driving around the track and up the road lol, but the goods defiantly out weigh the bad, fair play that you just get on with it, repair when need to, and use it just how you want, I've even picked up a few pointers myself which will come in handy when I start doing a few track days, (poss in mk1 fiesta if i don't get mk2 welded up) you tube clips were great, cracked me up a few times, one what sticks out is Cadwell Park 6th july 2011 1st video, about 4mins 44secs in (page 2), you just brush the kerb you and and your mate both turn look at each at the same time, then both look ahead at the same time lol, keep the stuff coming in, shame i prob wont ever get to see her live, as brands hatch and lydden poss Bedford auto-dome will be the only tracks i be visiting.

good weekend at POD at fast show apart from the exiting, good to see some old faces!

my best run was a 13.8 @ 104mph

i done my 4 runs straight away to get them out the way, kinda wish i didnt now as the sun didnt come out till dinner time which meant the track was quite slippery in the morning even with a small burnout to get some temp into the tyres, my reaction time was 0.4 seconds slower than on my last best run last time, i missed afew gears here and there, was still fun tho beating an e36 m3, an old scooby and a swift with a 15.8 haha

couple of vids -

against the subaru i got a sh!t start JUST beat him to the line - http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee444/quickshare104/5416ff03.mp4

against the swift, best start of the day, defo recon i wouldve beat 13.6 until i missed 3rd - http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee444/quickshare104/7fd4fec1.mp4

nice build mate, im gonna watch this one, a little tip about rocker covers, a black top rocker cover fits on the silver top engine and is half the weight and doesnt hold the heat like the siver top alloy one so better for under bonnet temps.
also on ebay you can buy a alloy underdrive crank pulley for focus zetecs, they fit on silver tops too with small modding to plastic, they less than half the weight and drive the alternator less so free power lol, you need aprox a 30mm shorter belt.
all good for track day cars.
ive got one on mine;

i prefer the look of the silvertop rocker cover, not too fussed about under bonnet temps as when at speed air travells through like a good un anyways

ive been told to stay away from lighter crank pulleys

and the pov spec one is on xrtwo, its got a 2l also, also with same cams as me, bike carbs instead of jenveys and the addition of a ported head

the silver top does look better i agree, ive got a blacktop to fit on mine just as its alot lighter, also the crank pulley dont cause me any issues, it slows down alternator revs but mine still reads 14.8v i believe on tick over, i think reasons for advising people not to use them is coz they slow down the water pump a small amount but tbh ive not noticed any difference really, i recon the only time you'd see issues is on turbo's when sitting in traffic, but i have a switch on my fan to aid cooling in traffic if needed.
they slow down power steering pumps too, mine has power steering and it does struggle a tiny bit more on tickover but i tend to not use it too much on tickover, but for manual racks thats not an issue

the ratios are really long compared to my old unkown box, now does 105 in 3rd on the clocks now where was before it done like 92 iirc, doesnt feel as instant after changing gear too takes about a second to kick in/feel as quick as it used too. LSD's brillinat tho. Realease bearing is rattling its tits off... and i still have the same humming noise, fcuking wheel bearings argh!!!

rear wheel bearings taken apart and re-greased up with bearing grease this time and not just universal grease, all back together, took it for a drive and it still doing the same howling its defo coming from the front nearside, and vibrating every now and then, dunno how but think ive messed up doing that front wheel bearing somehow the other week, it was silent for 2-300miles then its started this humming on the way down to santa pod the other week, its kinda intermittent too which is annoying.

geting used to the ratios now after another little drive, does 3100rpm in 5th at 70mph. The acceleration is savage defo shifts quicker in 1st and 2nd! Pulls awesome and the diff makes such a difference! look forward to testing it properly on the next trackday just hope the release bearing doesnt fail on me!

chenged the front nearside wheel bearing on tuesday, seems ok! then the other day when i drove the car before i altered the camber and tracking (AGAIN!!!!!!!!) i had a big camber problem, i could feel the car moving from side to side as i was driving...

so got home when the car was on the drive i checked it out, around -3degrees on the offside around -2degrees on the nearside, then i pushed the car 5ft forward-1/2 turn of the wheel and the camber went to like -1degreed and 0 degrees... wtf!?

so ive just checked everying and
everything is now tight as fcuk! also fitted new pinch bolts! camber both set to max/equal... tracking a hell of alot nearer to being right, and I THINK its fine now, need to get the tracking bob on then get a mate to follow me and see from the outside tbh when driving, it felt fine before tho!

Cant find a heater matrix on euro car parts or ebay, will have to see if anyone has one on here!

hopefully going to JasonXR2Racers this week to fit a new clutch cable!

the challenge system is on hold for the time being till these niggly jobs are sorted!

release bearings rattling like mad atm, incosistant tho not all the time so ive got a new LUK relase bearing, valvoline 80w90 gearbox oil and 2 new diff seals from Ford, Sorting them/box out this weekend!

Also got a Mk5 Zetec S gear linkage as i believe they fit with little modifying, also fit that when i do the release bearing etc!

Collecting the new Heater matrix from the Post office tomorrow and swap that sometime soon too!

All sounds good. What benefits do the Zetec S gear linkages give?

a hell of a lot closer gear change, like half the throw... basically the same if not smoother than B&M quickshift kit!

New release bearing was around 5mm too big (internal diamemeter) so luckily my old bearing was fine off my old gearbox so i fitted that saves faffing around waiting days for Euro Car Parts again.

New diff seals fitted, waiting to be pushed all the way in by the driveshafts -

all back together and filled up with proper gearbox oil this time -

happy days the release bearing rattles like it used to, not major at all.

fitted the ZS linkage, turned out the bush has gone in neutral so it doesnt return to the central position after/when changing gear, so now need another one, sigh lol, altho some people are saying i need a return spring for it as theyre built into the ib5 gearboxs on zs' where as they arnt on bc gearboxs/xr2s.

picture of how the ZS linkage fits -

ive won another ZS linkage on ebay, should be here tomorrow! also yet to fit the surround and the gaitor as i had to go get some new M6 nuts and bolts for it earlier.

i also measured the throw of the zs linkage and it's under 4'', so 1 3/4" shorter than the standard linkage, doesnt half make a difference

new vs old catch tank -

re sanded and primered the inner wing -

genuine used heater matrix -

will fit that when i get time to pick up the new metal clips from Ford which i ordered earlier as the plastic clips are known/have snapped when i removed the old matirx.

also ordered new ball joints from Euro Car Parts as both gaitors are split from the amount of times ive messed about with them now haha, they should be here towards the end of the week!

then did a spanner check on everything as i drove the car 50 odd miles sunday since refitting the gearbox, i thought something was loose... lol -
