All we did was put a couple of tyres under the sills, abit of cushioning under the rear arch and another tyre at the top of where the door would be to support it.

Firstly woohoo 2 pages already.
Right weve been very busy this week so ill start with some pictures
firstly another of some of the strengthining work
a couple of the new parts i had ordered arrived aswell
now the next bit weve done involves some of this
firstly after the rust had been run down with an angle grinder we put some rust treatment on
then some red oxide primer on top of that and in all the places that had been welded
then finally a mixture of the schutz and stonechip this is what weve got
then just for good measure we gave it a coat of white gloss
and its right in to all the corners aswell
thats it again for the time being ive just had the word my rear suspensions ready for collection from the powder coaters so im going to pick that up in the morning then i might be able to get it back on the rear two wheels by the end of next week
keep your coments coming in and ill keep the pictures goin on
Cheers for now mark.

I cant claim the welding as my own as it was my stepdad that did all of it i think he's spent about two weeks (evenings & weekends) in total just on the welding so i dread to think how much it would cost to have some one do it.Do you have any pictures of how your car looked before you had the work done i didnt think mine was too bad for an 18 year old car but i haven't got any thing to compare to ?
cheers for the comments so far mark.

Heres mine as we bought it
and as the strip down started i was very suprised how solid it was, i knew it wasnt a rust bucket before we bought it, bar the obvious rusty arches. but was suprised how solid it was as the underside was stripped. so the only welding it has had were the rear arches and a small spot on the seat fixing area, i also put a new gen ford wing back on the side that had been replaced at some time. the enigne has been fully reconned including a new FORD cam and followers, also had the box done too.
Basically everything that can be renewed has been, apart from the ABS system which is being put in the bin!!!!!
also bought a scrapper to use as a reference and spares car, for putting mine back together. photos and labels are great but, having one still built up is a real benefit, ans i can use the brake pipes off it, as a pattern as my car had ABS piping which is different...
All i need now is your enthusiasm mate, and maybe a lottery win

A lottery win would go down a treat but i still think i'd finish this before i got some thing else. How much did your scraper cost you ? i bought mine off a mate for £100 he had crashed it and thought the shell was twisted but i thought it would do as a referance for where things go.Upon closer inspection all it needed was a new shock and anti-roll bar which in total cost me about £50 so in total i got myself a running xr3i for £150
Abit of a mini update progress has been made in the engine bay
and the wiring looms been layed out ready for all the clips
abit of a closer look
ive also been spending abit more of my hard earned on ebay firstly these
£22 for the complete front set which i dont thinks to bad. Also these
for £60 with a brand new seal kit and before any one says why do you want to put disc's on the back the drums are more than upto the job ive always wanted a car with disc's on the rear and ive got the opertunity to do it so i am thanks for looking mark.

Hiya mate i've not been on in a while but yours was the first thread i checked out. Glad to she is coming along nicely. I've not touched mine for some time now. She sat for about 6 weeks without even getting looked at after my battery died. Fired her up the other day tho from a jump off my daily runner which is a mk5 escort 1.6 Carb with auto choke, which can be a real pain inda Anoose!! So whereabouts is it you're doing all this work? I'm in Nuneaton and you put up in my thread your not far from Wolvey.
My next plan is to waxoil all the internal panels on mine seeing as she's now very dry. The weather has been awful to be fair, so its not bin possible to have her outside onda ramps (so i'll let myself off, but i am getting lazy!) I'm job hunting aswel which is takin a lot of time out of my days, plus i'm working afternoons, eveings and weekends.
Quick question, does having only a half full tank of fuel cause any damage whilst the cars in storage? Rememba readin a thread on here about keepin the tank full as the fumes are corrosive? Speak to you soon buddy, must check yours out inda metal ASAP!

I like the sound of that local meet up where i live theres 4 performance fords and two of them are mine lol
Ive got a 1.8 all steel (stroked not bored out)bottom end a ported and polished head with a high lift kent cam.
Transmission wise im still trying to find a lsd to put in a choice of 3 boxes i have rebuilt and the clutch is a uprated rs turbo item.
I aint got a clue what power its going to be running but i think ill be happy with any thing over 150bhp.

Ive been up to day to take some pictures as i havn't posted any for a while the front suspensions starting to take shape
as is the engine bay
Here's the most exciteing bit though we started getting the engine ready to be put in so i took the sump off to have a look to see if it was all steel like the bloke i bought it off said which it was but i was met with this which to say i was happy is a massive understatement
H section steel rods lightened and balenced
and a steel crank also lightened and balenced
i feel abit guilty now though for only giving the bloke £180 for it but it should make my car better im hopeing to get it in over the weekend so ill post up some pic's once its in
cheers for now mark.

I forgot to mention in my other post ive been and fetched a differant tailgate and doors off a bloke on ebay which have had the shuts painted and been fitted so the dash can start going back in.
Ive also bought myself some studs that press into the hubs to convert them from studs to nuts because it always pissed me off trying to line the wheel up and get a stud in.
