My Mk1 Golf project

I thought it was about time i started this thread as a few people have bee asking me t start 1 on the progress so here goes.

I'm in the process of building a mk1 golf 20v turbo.

The spec will be as follows

1.8 20vt motor with H section rods and proper pistons, gt30 turbo(still undecided) external wastgate, mk3 16v box with sequential shifter. Autronic managment

Is still in the stages of being stripped ready for preping and welding before it goes in for a proper weld in cage. I've alreadt aquired a a 0vt motor, mk3 16v box, manifold with garrett flange, 15" bbs plit rims, and my cobra evolution s seat. My next urchase will be the sequental shifter hopefully and possibly some th mono's in track black as my function over fashion wheels.

The aim of the car is to be as ligh as possible at around 800kg fully stripped out and have a motor producing 400bhp. In reality it will probably end up being about 350bhp which will still be plenty.

I'll try get some pics tomorrow and start the thread properly :D

BBS RM'S i used to have a set on a mk2 years ago they look

XRT_si 14-12-2006 09:03 PM

Bloody nice project

Always wanted a mk1 and will get round to getting one.
Out of interest how are you managing to sort a sequential shifter on a i presume standard mk3 box? What kind of change do they have on them as standard?

Keep up the updates :top:

Alps Pacino 14-12-2006 09:53 PM

XRT_si

They work on cable change, so its just a clever mechanism that pulls the cables. Its all done in the sqs shifter unit that replaces the standard one basically instead of a standard arrangement it is like a motobike but where 1st is on a bike reverse is lol.

AGAR-COSWORTH 14-12-2006 10:09 PM

The will look awesome once finished -interior looks like a right headache at the moment

Alps Pacino 14-12-2006 10:39 PM

AGAR-COSWORTH

The interior is looking better now all the looms out and most the suface rust was ground out and rust treated.

The garage is getting tidied out tomrrow so will have the in there soon so can get the windows out and the doors and wings off and realy get into it

Small update, i've finally got the car in the garage and skiped the front wings and bonnet so hopefully the progres will start properly now.

I'm hoping to get the the rest of the seam sealer off and start to remove all the underseal from the inner wings and get the doors off so i can get the welding done :top:

datar18 08-01-2007 12:12 PM

Those wheels are WIDE, what arches will you run to warrant running those wheels?

-beefy- 08-01-2007 01:56 PM

well done alps mate ,

glad to see ur getting stuck into a new project after the s1 went to heaven lol

got a mate ove in liverpool whos well into these and done a few 20 vt conversions in mk 1 and 2s ,

well done fella

Alps Pacino 08-01-2007 04:44 PM

datar18

Standard the wheels might be going as i dont think the brakes i want will go under them, i hope they do go on as they look

datar18 09-01-2007 11:12 AM

As far as I know, the widest you can get on a mk1 without silly arch work is a 7.5 maybe an 8 if you push your luck.

But good luck to you dude

Oh yeah, PS, What would you want for them if you sold them?

smitsturbo 09-01-2007 11:35 AM

mk1 golfs are the only golf i would have & yours looks like its going to be a weapon :top: :top:

Alps Pacino 20-01-2007 04:08 PM

Small update again, Moza came round today and proceeded in removing the front panel, back panel, spare wheels well and a few other problem areas. Anywy all went to plan and its starting to finally take shape or at least it will tomorrow when the new panels go on.
