Default Had the ST a couple of months now so thought I'd post some pics

I've had the ST a couple of months now and I'm really surprised by it tbh, I hadn't given one a second thought while I had the Sapph on the road and lots of people told me I'd be bored of it but I can honestly say I love it!

It's an Frozen white '08 plate facelift ST-3, full Ford service history, had done just under 25K when I bought it, it's on 27.5K now, when I bought it it had already had the Mountune MP260 kit carried out, which is a K&N panel filter, bigger intercooler and a remap.

It also had a full Mountune exhaust fitted, uprated downpipe and sports cat, Mountune inlet plenum, Focus RS oil cooler Bilstein dampers, Eibach springs, whiteline rear anti roll bar, uprated front discs and pads, basically it had everything needed for the MR290 upgrade, it just needed the remap doing.

When I first bought it...

I was originally going to do the standard wheels gloss black but then I managed to get hold of a brand new set of 18" RS wheels through work for £350 so bought them instead

I then took the trip to Essex to Mountune to have the MR290 map done (£100) Really happy with it now, got loads more midrange torque, definitely feels faster that 290bhp, although they said that it is a conservative power claim, although now the standard clutch is slipping, luckily when I bought the car, my mate who I bought it from threw in all the standard parts with it and also a Focus RS clutch and flywheel so that's the next thing to be fitted, also refitted the d-cat last week

Some pics I took today, I want to get some spacers for the wheels just so the fill the arches slightly better but on the whole I'm really pleased with the car

Put the Focus badge back on, along with a new ST badge and the MR290 badge...

Next job though is to paint the brake calipers anything other than yellow lol, cos they're bloody horrible!!

Hope you like
Karl

Thanks mate, it's a Mountune one but it's had the Mountune bit machined off for some reason and then painted crackle black.

Have to say it did look nice on the original wheels but for how much I paid for the multispokes I just thought it was worth keeping the originals how they are cos they are absolutely mint, no marks at all etc, then if I ever decide to sell I can always swap them back.

I'd say for a road spec with the RS clutch that it is more or less bang on perfect mate. My 280ish bhp ST is more than enough for me and road driving and I'm a firm believer that stage 2-3 is bang on for these so my humble advice is don't number chase and enjoy for what it is. I also prefer the standard ST wheels to the RS ones also but now you have two sets you can always switch!

I totally agree mate tbh, got no further plans power wise, really really happy with it just as it is, any more power and it would just be overkill anyway as far as grip goes so its pointless really, I did buy an AS cais for it but it made absolutely no difference whatsoever so that went on ebay last week lol

Lovely car Karl!

I agree with Maxest though, I prefer the standard wheels but like you said, the others were a steal!

I was actually looking on pistonheads at these last night! Lol!

I don't think you'd regret buying one mate, really under-rated imo, especially when they've been remapped!

Ah, didn't think I've seen one like that before! Looks really tidy in the bay, most aftermarket ones look huge and very un-subtle! I'm ordering up an RS clutch kit for mine in the next few months so hopefully that will cure my slipping issues.

Yeah, I quite like the fact that it looks sort of factory tbh, I'm sure the clutch will solve your problems mate, not cheap though are they??!!

Mines running a dreamscience map, airtec cooler and panel filter and driving round town I'm getting 27mpg driving normally. It's not bad as my old Astra Sri turbo was doing 27mpg and that was only 170bhp lol so can't complain. On a long run ive got 40mpg driving like a old man

I know they are pretty horrendous! It seems that the only part that is different between the two clutches is just the pressure plate and it is the DMF that is the costly part. But knowing my luck if I were to leave the ofiginal DMF in and just change the clutch then it would fail a couple of weeks later so probably best to bite the bullet and get the whole lot done.

Cheapest place I've found the full kit is ebay although Dreamscience do xmas offers in december so might see if they come up cheaper then.

Has anyone ever tried an uprated ST fast road clutch? Can't remember where I saw the damn things but there is a stage 1 fast road clutch and a stage 2 cera-metallic fast road clutch kit also. If I can remember who sells them I'll post links up.

EDIT: Found them!!

http://www.performancefordparts.co.u...s.asp?Cat=1823

EDIT 2: JW Racing also sell SPEC fast road clutches also again cheaper than an equivalent RS clutch but those sold at BD Performance are cheaper still!

When you put it that way it doesn't seem so bad lol, it did well on a run when we went to Essex tbh, and like I say, it's actually slightly better on fuel now it's been re-re-mapped lol

Thanks Pete, quite surprised you like it actually, I know they're not really your thing lol, I think with the wheel spacers it should look a bit more aggressive as well

Thanks James, yeah, it really does go well, definitely feels faster than 290bhp tbh, dunno if it's the torque that just makes it feel faster or not though lol, puts the power down nicely although the traction control kicks in a lot more now with this map,
The clutch started slipping on the way home from Essex lol, doesn't do it all the time, just in 5th &6th, midrange when overtaking really, tempted to put a quaife diff in it when I do the clutch as well if I can afford
