Default Question about moderation

Seems strange to me that points were given out for this post:

https://passionford.com/forum/4285041-post14.html

Which is IMHO very clearly just a bit of harmless internet banter, no name calling, no swearing, nothing abusive.

Did a mod press the wrong button or have things round here really got so strict?

Was only 1 point and not for long so its not like its going to cause me to get banned or anything that might matter, I was just surprised to see it handed out so readily.

Just thought I would update this so that people didnt think I hadnt been given a response.

Tony PM'd me to say that he gave me the points because he felt I made him look foolish with my reply pointing out what a trivial thing he was commenting on.

Thanks for the reply Tony, at least that has now been cleared up. And apologies if I made you feel foolish, it wasnt my intention but I will be more careful to take your feelings into account further in future posts

I didn't think making someone feel foolish was an 'infractable offence'. Seems a little harsh!

I will possibly get points for this too, but surely by doing that, then not even saying so on this thread, he has made himself look foolish.
A lot more than Chip has managed?

Yeah it does seem a little harsh to me as well, this site is getting quite oppressive these days.
I realise that now its a purely commerical venture rather than an enthusiast owned site that things have to be tightened up on and that they cant allow people to properly abuse each other, but a bit of incredibally tame very well natured banter like in that post I would have thought would be good for business as its having a bit of a laugh and a bit of a banter that made this site so popular as much as the good technical advice on here did IMHO, so to completely squash it out totally does indeed seem over the top.

no not really, but then again there are some issues we have to deal with that never make any imprint on the fabric of passionford.
even though they should.
all depends on the persons involved i suppose ...
not everyone in the world has the same oppinions or views, so it will never improve at this rate.

you can post things on here that can be read out of context by others OR actually mean what they say by how they are written...
the use of a doesnt always make your comments seem as though they are in jest.....

so the reality is, if your comments could be misread as abusive, baiting or insulting when you get a mod or admin contacting you about it try looking at it from a different view and it might be seen as to why..

we get alot of hate pms from users where they feel they have unjustly been treated, but the reality is they have broken some of the sites ruling and got the arse, but the majority is form users being nice about it and understanding that there was a problem..

whilst we like the place to run smooooothly (less work for us)it doesn't always happen and decisions are made by whomever is online and looks at the reported posts area....

such is life

Eagle, thats exactly what I did, asked what rule I broke, and from the response it was very obvious that Tony had indeed done what you say and completely misread my post.

Did Benni get points for his outrage at Chip ?

Does Benni get points for "baiting" chip in his signature, for x amount of days, on many posts ?

I dont think chip cares about benni and his behaviour, but surely if you are going to give points for "baiting" then you need to be giving them to other users who are "baiting" aswell ?

If they took upholding the rules evenly then yes I would agree, to me it seems ridiculous that a user is allowed to have a signature in blatant contravention of the rules which is added to every single post he makes.

As you say, I dont really care from a personal point of view, im not the touchy sort, but it does make a total mockery of the moderation team IMHO

Whats the rule on stalkers/baiters Benni & Lambchop will ruin anypost I put up & get really personal & abusive but noone stops that, lets get it clear this is a car forum on the internet its 99% shi*e & 1% content, some need to get a grip on reality me thinks.
Chip is to quick witted & clever for most on here im afraid.

if you have a complaint about how other users are replying to or harrasing you then report it to the mods and something can be done about it, if no one tells us that something is annoying you then we are not mind readers ...
