Ford Bantam failed emissions
I'm hoping someone may be able to assist me. I have recently brought over a ford Bantam from South Africa. It is a 2006 model and does not have a cat. I have a letter from the manufacturer stating it is pre cat without an o2 sensor. It has failed MOT due to emissions and I am at a complete loss now on how to reduce the emissions (CO). It has the Ford 1.6 Rocam Engine or Duratec 8v as it is known here. Same engine as the Street KA. Can anyone give me any advise on how to get this to pass emissions. The engine has covered 150 000 miles. The MOT station tested to 2002 emissions and it is way out.
It must be a different in legislation in South Africa vs here. Here there is a non cat, vs CAT test, the latter is far more stringent in terms of emission requirements.
All cars here since like 93 have had a cat and won't meet emission requirements without it, hence it's the reason why de-cats won't pass an MOT, as you are experiencing
I believe the stance will be it has to meet the emission requirements for this country, regardless of it's origin.
It's a bit like with imports they have to have certain things in order to be legal here, as such, I don't believe there is a way round this, other than to retrofit a cat and C/L (i.e. closed loop)
