Its a gambling site not an auction site.

you have to pay to bid, and then if you win you get to buy something stupidly cheaply, if you dont win, then you have paid to bid and got nothing for your money at all.

so while some people have "bought a mini cooper for Ł72.67" thousands of others have spent lots of money and got NOTHING for it.

buy a lottery ticket, far better idea!

If you buy 10 bids for Ł10.49 that means they make basically a Ł1 for very penny you bid up, could waste the 10 bids (Ł10.49) very quickly and win nothing if you were to buy bids.

Indeed, when a car "sells" for 300 quid, that actually means that 30,000 people have all paid 1 quid each to "bid" for the car and got nothing for their money.

Its gambling and NOT an auction, it amazes me so many people seem to struggle to see through it!

Those 30,000 people would be better off buying lottery tickets with their quid!

There is 10K worth of mini on there at the moment for 325 quid, which means so far they have collected 32,500 pounds for it

Lol its people who think there 1p will be the winning one who keep going and get addicted and think its only another Ł1 this might be the winning bid. Chance are it wont be. Tho someone gets lucky i suppose, just would never be me so i wont be buying bids . As you say its a gamble weather you will win or not tho

Some people spend hundreds of pounds "bidding" for a car only to get NOTHING for their money.

Here is that MINI I was on about:

http://uk.madbid.com/show/212303-New-MINI/

So far 32518 people have all paid a pound each (well some of them will have paid as much as 100 quid) and have NOTHING to show for the money they have spent.

As chip says, it's more like a raffle or similar to that "Best of the Best" supercar competition.
As the saying goes, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

I've just opened the link chip put up for the mini. The Clock gets to 2 secs then resets to 55seconds, and Keeps doing it

when does it end then? a week, a month? probably when they've collected enough bids and enough money!. I've seen the adverts, but never been on there until now.

*edit*
just worked it out, someone always places a bid a penny higher, at about 2 or 3 seconds left.

i think i'm thick enough for the site to appeal to me

thats the problem with gambling, people are too stupid/addicted to see the bigger picture!

too many people fail to understand the concept of only gambling what you can afford to loose. and the problem seems to be getting worse.

What is it with desperate people to make them think 'i know i will blow money on the horses, hopefully i will be lucky!' how stupid is that?

They've now collected 33 grand against that "bargain" mini, and its still going.

Great idea, wish I had thought of it.

Any idea that relies on the punter to be stupid seems guarenteed to succeed

its a website for people who are a bit dumb, and fall for anything.
doubt these "winners" even exist, and if they did they prob work for the company anyway

On the contrary, Im sure that the winners do exist, and are genuine.

If I sold 50,000 quids worth of raffle tickets for a 10K mini, I would quite happily hand the prize over to the legitimate winner.

Not doing so would be immensely stupid, as it would undermine all the millions of pounds they have spent on TV advertising in one quick blast of bad publicity, for a site like that to work, people HAVE to beleive that if they do win, they will get their prize.

What I would suspect though, is that there may be a few automated bidders to keep the "auctions" running until they have made their "reserve price" which in the case of that mini needs to be 100 quid.

No one buying a mini for 100 quid is going to complain that they think they should have got it for 40 quid etc after all.

the worst part is alot of their auctions are for their own bids... so in reality you will be paying more than just buying them from their own store...
