No mate, fairly low compression, 8.2:1

Just gutted i could have started with a taller block and didnt realise it.

Means i could have increased the crank throw half a dozen mm and had some extra capacity whilst also lengthening the rods to end up with a better than standard rod angle.

block on the left is the 2.2 frontera block, both are XE

Someone mentioned to me ages ago about using one and i dismissed it out of hand saying "vauxhall are cheapskates they will just have shortened the rods to allow the extra throw on the crank, like in a 205"
fuck me, talk about me making an assumption i know about something when i didnt

Im on my:
3rd turbo
2nd manifold
2nd ECU

And ive not even finished building it yet

Have just been speaking to Rob, and im going to just carry on regardless with my current engine, i just cant justify another start from scratch now really.

Hopefully 500bhp+ should be fairly nippy in the mini in the meantime and i will build one based on this block later on to replace it when it wears out.

Alex, will tell you that when i find out wether or not i can avoid surge on my GT35R.63 turbo mate.

With an extra couple of hundred CC it would have put me in a much better place on the compressor map for the head and cams etc

Depends on what you mean by "map out" i can limit boost versus RPM to map it out that way, there is also the possibility of altering the cams to allow the engine to flow more air for the same pressure.

Sadly though as ive NEVER seen this turbo on this engine before, its all guesswork based on what happens on YBs with that turbo

Im not too bothered if i have to limit boost until high RPM, i wont mind if i dont get full boost till 6000rpm+ really, but its just annoying that for no real extra effort and only an extra grand or so in cost i could have built a bigger CC unit instead with this taller block and known that surge wouldnt be an issue.

arr I see!

I posed the question in a "how much power do you really need in a mini" kind of way!

I'm sure it will still deliver the goods!

Alex

On a fairly basic spec YB this turbo is happy to have 22psi rising to 28psi at the top end without any problems at all with surge (based on dougs current setup) thats enough for comfortabley over 500bhp on my engine at 8000rpm+

So its easily going to exceed the amount of power i wanted from it, so yeah im sure you are right about delivering the goods still, just annoying it could have been even better so easily!

But dont forget you would need longer rods too.

I dont think for what you are doing with yours it would really be needed
