my dad is having probs with windows xp, his comp is saying enter activation code/product key, however, the restore cd was borrowed of my sister + doest say any code on the cd cover. tried the code on the back of her pc + dads laptop + it says code error.

Right you need to buy a copy of Windows XP as this may help.

If I give you mine tnumber hen it won't activate as it regesterted to me

There is ways round it. There mabe ppl out there with a dodgy copy for you

he was reinstalled it a while back, everytime he logged on it said activate, now it wont let him even log on till its activated

right phone up Microsoft I cannot remember the number its a 0800 for activation.

Use your sisters XP sieral number and thy should give you the activation KEY

Best thing is to use a copy that's for volume licenses, i.e. issued to big companies that buy licenses in blocks of 1000 etc. These copies do not need activating

By the sounds of it you have downloaded the verification tool that Windows have now got out. Prevents any further updates than SP2 I think until you have a legitimate key of some sort.

We have volume licensing at work fortunately although all on 2K.

I had this issue about 6 weeks ago and just went and bought a legit copy as I run a business anyway. Didnt want to get stung for not having a legit copy as there are big incentives here for people to report pirate users, mainly businesses though.

New version of XP Home here is cheap.
