Intercooler question ??
Hi
I'm running my saff 2wd stage 1.
And when the out side temp is 20-25 c, the SECS read the ACT to be somewhat more, 30-40 c !!
My car has Air condition, and it'll stay on
I've messured and it's possible to weld two 2wd I/C together, behind each other.....
but that will not make a bigger front arear, would that work ??
I've also heared of people making a quad from 4 2wd I/C......if that will fit, I would think i can weld 2 of them together on top of each other, and still clear the aircondition cooler ????
What do you guys think ??
something has to be about........
Cheers Kennert

not sure if i would clear the air con cooler as i havent got a cossie, but the quad 2wd cooler sounds like a good idea to me
im making a triple 2wd cossie cooler for my zetec turbo RS1600i

the pics might help you

too much pressure drop i think, would cool well that way tho.

Kennert,
Firstly, with external ambients of 20-25°C, ACTs of 30-40°C are perfectly acceptable and your intercooler is working perfectly adequatly and I would leave well alone until you start getting temps closer to 50°C.
If you want to improve your cooling, an viable solution would be the Escort Cosworth charge-cooler/air to air set-up, with a separation kit. This would allow you to retain your air-con and give an improvement in ACT control

Hi
Red16 NICE job you are doing, that looks good
I think I can make a double 2wd fit my car.
But i have also thought about the escort I/C running a bike water as external cooling for the chargecooler kit.
The reason i'm gonna do something to bring the ACT temp is this;
The temperatur in denmark has droped down th say 10-13 c, and the car has SO much more power now
and the SECS reads ACT to be around 20 C.
Cold air is KING
I have thought about building a huge charge cooler and place it where the std. airbox is, just run a cone filter turned in towards the center of the engine bay AND make a double I/C of two 2wd cossie I/C
that way I get to keep my air con, and get good cool air
in the summer time the ait gets up to 65 c, when parking with a hot engine.......it then takes some time to drop to 40-50 c.
So something should be done i think

I'd bin the cone filter idea, as you will be increasing the ACTs with this, as it will be sucking in hot air from the engine bay.
If you are running a 2wd intercooler, you will see vast improvements running the Escort item and it will still retain that factory look. This is the one we did for Jim Green's car - looks like it was made for it
.

This set up would be more than adequate up to 400bhp

I would run it using an external water supply for ultimate reduction in ACTs
. With the charge-cooler running the engine coolant, I would say that it would only then be good enough for 350bhp. You could then have fun sorting out the supplementary radiator etc - would be a nice winter project

I have thought a lot about using the escort I/C as i would be so easy, not having to weld in alu and all that stuff
I would run it using an external water pump. i have a small honda 400cc bike radiator with a big fan on.
I would use the water injection dialog on the SECS monitor to trigger a timing rely, the secs should trigger the timing rely when it gets positiv boost
And the timing rely should stay "On" for 5-10 min, kicking on the fan on the bike radiator. I think the matrix pump should be "on" using the ignition power....so all the time the engine runs, the water is circulating.
I have all the wiring done from an other fun project that did not work at all (Home build charge cooler weldede together from sheet metal steel plate, forming an upside down U profil. A tight fit over the original 2wd I/C )

Seriously though, ive got this setup on my car and its ok for stage 3. Havent had any issues with ACT since fitted. Not that its a major upgrade but for us who still got midly tuned engines and want to keep the AC its ok.
Had 13 degrees in ACT while on track last week. It was hilarious.
