Its not a difficult conversion, you can buy the hydraulic release bearing for
130 dollars plus shipping, i got mine from summit racing, part no HRE 8288
it comes complete with ajustable pedastools, Then youve got to modify the
pedal box, to take the mastercylinder, although you could just buy one
all ready moddified, usually incorparating brake bias , from the likes of
rallydesign or demontweeks, the its a case of running the lines to and from
Its deffo worth doing, and i would never go back to a cable although
saying that its not a 10 minuit conversion. good luck with it

Mini's have had them since 1959, glad to see the cossie finally catching up

Joking aside though, point im making is that there are lots of standard cars out there with a hydraulic clutch system you could nick if you dont mind doing a bit of fabrication to get it to fit your car.

The pedal end of things is likely to be more awkward to fit than the box end of things.

I have the Reyland hydraulic conversion on my car and it is without doubt, one of the best things I have had done .

In fact I would say that for any high powered 4x4s, it is pretty much essential when running a paddle clutch.

For the un-informed among us, what exactly is the advantage of a hydraulic system over a cable-based system?

I assume you can apply greater force and you can vary the volume of pressure far easier? Hence more control?

It fully releases and fully engages the clutch EVERY time (which increase the life of the clutch by a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge margin), offers perfect feel / control and there is no cable to stretch etc.

Does it also take away the on or off sort of problem that comes with a paddle clutch. Lots of people say the clutch is either on or off and there isnt anything in between

Although this may be true of a 4-paddle clutch, the Alcon 6-paddle is not a problem with or without hydraulic actuation.

Lot of people have obviously never driven a car with a paddle clutch and are perpetuating here-say .

Having driven on the alcon 6 paddle in a couple of cars i would say its a bit grabbier than a normal one, but i agree with Mike its not as bad as some paddles i have had in other cars.

Hi lads did a hydraulic clutch conversion on my rear wheel drive puma
1st I machined down the t5 bearing carrier to accept the boss see pics
Then I made a boss to take the cylinder nose APC5 from Burton power only Ł79.00
Total conversion cost about Ł100
Thanks taffy (AKA Brynavon motorsport)

I have had Reyland hydraulic clutch conversion to my 3dr

it uses the same clutch pedal slightly modded and the same pedal box

i all so use the AP racing heavy duty cover with a AP 6 plate clutch and the pedal feels like a 1.1 fiesta pop

best thing i ever done to that car worth everypenny

Marco
