also when fitting a paddle clutch should the cover fit flush to the block?
normally the rear of the flywheel (gearbox side) should be completely flat and the clutch cover should be flush to that, just apply the correct torque to the cover bolts, on 4wd the inertia ring is much wider but i don't think the flywheel is any thicker, they all vary as most have been skimmed at some point
p.s i would get a lightened flywheel on your mk1, you don't need it as heavy as on a big old sierra, i have lightened ones on escort and cortina, rev up faster
well since i took gearbox off there has been some surface rust on the flywheel,i have tryed to get it off but its marked the flywheel so maybe a good idea to get it skimmed a bit
