Yeah to be fair I've seen some cars they've worked their magic on and they do fantastic work. Never heard anything but praise for them and in the Motor trade that's a very rare thing, only normally bad words travel!

Thank you for all your input guys but I think I'm going to try and buy an already built engine as when you look at the costs involved it's a no brainier. I was originally wanting to keep my bottom end and just sort the head out, turbo etc etc but now realise with the abuse I want to give it that's not going to work. I want a strong 500bhp so it will last.

Any got a 500bhp engine they want to sell

If your going second hand look out for a used ecu set up as well so you can have it mapped by the likes of mark who is close to you and it will suit future up grades

Be very careful that you don't end up buying someone else's problems. Some of the engines may be Rallycross ones, great for max power, not so great on the road....but, real gems are out there and your engine has a good value too.

I may have already found one from reputable guy what's my engine worth? It was rebuilt about 1000 miles ago and was running stage 3 with t34. Very quite engine??

What could you push a standard engine to without compromising it?

If I went standard bottom end, ported head, updated cams, Swedish Inlet, gt3071, Siemens 83lbs plus the usual, filter, exhaust, inter cooler what sort of power figure are possible?

You will need pocketed pistons for the cam and probably rods. I expect 500 is sensible. Cossie Dave had 700 bhp but it bent the standard crank. Don't forget long studs.

So 500 can be done with a standard bottom end?? Obviously if I had the Pistons pocketed.

I'd say 450-480hp on that kinda spec.

If your tracking it hard I'd run an oil cooler and a gated big wing sump too

I went to M.A.Developments in 1996 & still there. 400bhp, 500bhp 620bhp, 680bhp, 840bhp & now 900+bhp. He is the best or I would not be there. If you make the Fastest then any thing less is a doddle. You will get a 2017 Spec engine that will be best of breed. It makes no difference to me who anyone uses but have been around long enough to know who leads the field in road car engines.

I'm now thinking that I might get my engine I have to somewhere around 450 as its a good engine then run it for a while until I get used to the power then I could upgrade or buy another engine.

I've never been in a 450bhp cossie and bare in mind it's a fully stripped out track car I'm thinking that 450bhp should be ample for the time being. What do you think?

Hi Rich, I still think 450 is pushing it on a 205 block. You cannot long stud the standard 205 block either incase you were thinking of this as it was mentioned somewhere on this thread.
If it's a 0.25 or .5 max you may have a chance. I don't think it will last long on a track slag myself. Before anyone says it yes we all know a handful of owner who have 450 or 500bhp on a 205 block, few have been lucky, most haven't.
I spoke to a few tuners about this last summer, most say go to the 200 block.
I would decide who's gonna map it and what ecu your gonna be using, then get your tuners advise first before you plow your money either way.
I hope this helps a little Rich.

Cheers Lee. I've been offered a 500bhp engine which is brand new and ready to go. It has had everything done to it as it was a spare race engine for a known guy but not sure if I can justify 10k

My 2wd Saff is a full road car weight but even though its only got 450 bhp it is pretty brutal. In a lightweight 3 door I think my engine would give you plenty of thrills and be more than competitive.
I can take you out for a spin in it sometime if you want as we both live in Southampton.

Go Borg Warner efr and use the massive low down torque....torque wins races, bhp sells cars. 420bhp with a wedge of torque from about 3000rpm is a seriously fast car.

Might not be a great idea for the op's application though if he's gonna track it and be revving the nuts off it all the time.
If it was a road car then yeah def

Not sure you need to rev the nuts off it, even on a track car....I did a lot of track miles in a Griff 500, that thing didn't need more than 5000 rpm to be quick and they never make the bhp the factory claimed. You just need torque plus another gear

This is so true.i would not give up my T34.48 in a road car with over 400lbft its such a hoot and very addictive.
Just remember rally cars only had 300bhp but loads of torque.

A lot of track based cars have big hp figures and low torque power outputs.

Track cars see a lot more revs so rather than keep changing gear you can have a wide powerband and just keep it revving.

This is just my opion obviously

Don't get upset princess....it's only a discussion. F1 cars need 15,000+ rpm to make the power...we do get it.

Just trying to give him some options if 500bhp isn't an option on a 205 block.

Sorry Paul, we all have our opinions, you clearly don't agree. If we take the cost out of it then We would all go efr, I am pretty sure that is your only beef with this...is there any other reason, other than cost that you fight so hard against the efr?

And, not every post, that is a sweeping statement. If we are talking tyres, suspension, heads, bodywork then I contribute on all...the efr doesn't come into that.
