not sure what is used on the centre caps but it will need to be abs plastic or similar. The other stuff that can be used will melt or deform. Interesting to find out if theses have been tried with hot wheels.

I think ford used ABS or polyurethane, not sure which. But £200 a set is a bit steep. I can make a rough guess at how much they are to produce minus design time and I know what I'd price them at.

Looks like they're made from an alloy of Noryl and Nylon form this pic I found on Ebay

Kind of a strange one!

see I would say they are dear. A 100 quid is more like it. 200 pound for 4. That's 50 quid a cap.

Ok done some checking and the centre caps should be printed in nylon. Anything else and it will either melt, warp or (if exposed to solvents petrol/brake fluid) dissolve.

spot on. Why pay £200 for copies when genuine at only a little bit more.

Right just massaged the escos centre cap seller. The caps are made from PLA. So as not to bias anything, if someone would like to look up the properties of this type of plastic filament and see what happens when it is heated up over several cycles. Oh an why it’s a popular plastic for the green eco people.

Don't think I would want anything made out of that stuff!

The EsCos wheel centre has the injection and ejection on the same side of the tool along with sliding cores for the undercuts and a hot sprue bush, I doubt you could get an injection mould tool made for less than £10,000 even if it were sub contracted out to a Chinese toolmaker.

If anyone has step file they've managed to produce, send it over to these people for a quote http://www.bluesky-mold.com/
We had 3 tools made by them and they were useable, but far from perfect.

Mark V8. You are right about the high cost of injection moulding dies for new products. My Brother was a specialist toolmaker for one of Australia' largest poly bush manufacturers and he was responsible for making the dies and he told me the costs were very high as he sometimes spent weeks getting everything just right. The costs can be re-couped once you start producing thousands of the products but to try and do a small batch of something would never be cost effective.

Used in the correct application PLA is a good plastic. I’ll be using it for the sapphire cosworth skirt mounting brackets. They are not subjected to heat so will not degrade and the PLA is strong as fook.
For centre caps I’ll be using nylon. Injection moulding a copy of the escort cosworth caps is not going to be a viable option.
And they will have to be done without the Ford logo unless a license option is taken out

With the ford logo. Can you not just change it ever so slightly? Is this how other company's get away with selling branded stuff.

Bit overpriced about 50 to 60 quid per cap imo.

But again if someone pays it then all good for the seller eh.
