Will a 51 transit DI run on red diesel?

yes but if your tank gets dipped even if its then full of ordinary diesel your fucked and your van will be seized. If you use red it shows up even if say you filled up with red once then used it all and only then filled up with ordinary diesel.
A mate bought a van ran it for a year and never used red however he was pulled over routine stop and they dipped his tank still showed up red had been used and they seized his van (previous owner had used red).

Red is just dye. It's just regular diesel.

All diesels will run on red without issue!

Red has an ultraviolet dye in it too, cant see it and is apparent even if you filter out the red pigment.

A 'friend of mine' used red in massive quantities over 3 years, 'he' done lots of research into it.

All you need to do is section your tank off and add a hidden filler and you're sorted. A '51 plate might even run on heating oil.

i allegedly used a couple of hundred litres of red in my van over a couple of months. about 6 weeks after i stopped using it i got my tank dipped at a routing traffic police stop and it was all clear.
my mate got a £500 on the spot fine when he got caught using red and was told by the police the second offence forfeits the vehicle.

Ive been told that if you use it for a while then go back to white it does remove the red from the tank.

I no usually its the bits in the drums that cause issues

What happens with that Redex treatment stuff then? Surely that will also colour your fuel red?

i had to buy 55 gallon drums of red diesel for our big on site generators a couple of years ago and i was surprised at the cost. i cant remember the exact costs but it wasnt that much cheaper than buying normal stuff from a petrol forecourt. does it get much cheaper in bigger quantities? unless your getting knocked of red for much cheapness it wouldnt be worth the risk for the little difference it was.

51 plate will be fine, the tddi engine likes it
but 06 on had the tdci engine fitted
these dont like cherry at all and it WILL get costly puting it right if you try to run cherry in 1
theres differant grades of red diesel available, but generaly in britain we have a good grade so its ok on most cars
but it IS NOT the same diesel with red die added
it used to be but as of a few years ago most processing plants changed it
as it was costing them more to produce it this way
modern red diesel is made to a lower standard with less additives than modern white
but it is still a high enough standard to be fine in most cars

buying red in small quantities(upto 1000litres) isn't realy much cheaper and certainly not worth the bother
but over that it drops in price a bit
but most red diesel when bought in small amounts like a tank here and there or a barrel etc is usualy blagged off a building site or from digger drivers etc, this obviously makes it much cheaper and more tempting

We buy red at work, 1000 litres at a time and I think it is just over a quid a litre. Price does vary though as to how much you buy, how often you buy it, if you have a contract set up etc.

Used to run my escort van on it for about 3 years so saved a fortune but don't no if its worth the risk in a transit, getting shitty red and causing running problems and obviously getting caught!

Do you get £500 fine and vehicle seized? Or just a fine?

the building site i used to work on a few years ago was like a garage forecourt with queues of workies filling their motors with no real control over it. at one point i had about 300 litres stored in various containers in my shed that id filled on site as i couldnt use it as quick as i got it.i wouldnt run it in anything decent but at the time i had an old astravan worth about £500.
obviously for any any customs and excise reading this the above paragraph is entirely fictional and totally made up to impress other nerds on the internet:cry:

Getting caught using red is usually £500 first time for a private user.

Getting caught using and concealing the red...and you're on a serious pile of shit.

the more you buy the cheaper it is.

our company buy it in around 70p per litre so half price if you wish to run your car or van on it.

i work in Stanlow and have been told it is roughly the same however forcourt white diesel has inhibitors added and anti freeze to to stop it freezing up, something that has happened on our machines at work.

suppose the odds on getting caught using it are slim however you all seem to know the concequences if you get caught...fine then no car.

the problem ive had in the past was when you get it from building sites etc it is stored in dirty tanks and containers etc never used it in any common rail cars of mine but farmers use it in tractors etc and have no real issues and i imagine 100K combine harvestors etc have quite sophisticated commonrail diesel systems

Yup, I'm an access engineer, the amount of times our equipment gets fucked up because the operators fill the tanks with any old shit, or diesel from a bucket that's full of sand etc. We've even had them top the tanks up with water before being returned so they don't pay the fuel surcharge. Cocks lol.

Red varies massively
I've seen some really nice thin stuff with hardly any colour then seen it like jelly and the colour of plum jam
The local farmers generally have 2 trucks here 1 on white then anothervshitter on red but you can tell which is which from the smoke but they have an 8 mile road allowance I beleve on their red diesel trucks
Can you use heating oil (kerosene) with an additive?
Its knocking around 60p a litre at the mo

Im not sure about heating oil, been told aslong as you change the fuel filter regularly then its okay

I thought kerosene (heating oil) had a lack of oil-iness about it and in turn fooked the fuel pump.

aye i vouch for it the 2.4 rwd y reg most defo run on the good old cherry lol

Kero does not contain enough sulphur in it for modern hdi engines, but I know many older cars running on it,

pre 56 plates are fine but my mates new shape one hates it for some reason I had to drain his tank and refill with white then it was fine again
my 2001 golf runs on anything you put in it lol

kero got to bash it with engine oil sure its 1 gallon to 45 gallon but get same crap for it so best bet use cherry

New transits run fine on it for sure

red diesel is around 75 pence a litre so about half price of white diesel.

i was offered a load of red a while back at a quid a litre for me old discovery but knocked back as I can run it on cooking oil for the same money and wont get me motor taken if i get dipped

Just buy an old £300 diesel Mondeo and run it on red.....If they stop you tell them to keep the car ;-)

someone is making a loss then, in my line of work we consume on average 10-15,000 litres a week and our strategic purchasing guys can get it in for me at just over 75p a litre

get as much as you can...but dont use it ;)

Price alters on red diesel on a daily base's
72p per ltr at mo just ad 2000 ltr deliver'd on our farm .
We run all our tractors tele handler gator and 1 of o.ur landrover disco's on it .
The 1 disco is register'd as limited use , ie can b used on public highway for approx 2 kilometre radius from register'd address of said machine , no mot require'd on it ,free tax disc, but must b insured and av good tyres , all lights workin ,
Reg document has 2 b sent off 2 dvla for v5 document 2 b amend'd 2 limited use .........

i used to think red was the same just with a dye in it. my mate had an old bmw 325tds that used to love it and ran on it all the time. he swapped that eventually for a newer 320d e46 and that didn't like it at all, wouldn't run right so he drained it and put white in and it was fine. he was quite pissed off because up to that point he'd not been to a petrol station for about 3 years!

It dont work like that anymore mate. IIRC £500 Fine, If pay'd within 14 days, you get the car back. If not, car seized/crushed.And you still have the fine.

You can get rid of colour, but the HMRC Can always tell. Red/Gasoil is a different weight to Derv.

So basically if you get caught its £500 fine?

last year at my local kart track whilst we had an event on vosa turned up on mass and dipped every diesel vehicle in the paddock (except my mondeo st tdci as they must be thick and thought it was as an st 220! lol)
2 race vans were caught and fined 500 quid, other vans were driven on to the kart track and hidden lol
