neat idea though

 

what a great idea, more moving parts though, so can see a failure unless money is spent on the components.

 

Im sure lotus have sold a variable compression engine with a one piece head/block casting for use in countries with variable fuel quality, clever folks at Lotus

 

Nothing new there fuel company's have been using a much simpler design for years to work out the octane rating for fuels.

 

alot to go wrong but still awesome engineering.

 

Interesting, but why a mechanical design?
Variable intake valve timing (as most engines have these days) can accomplish essentially the same thing. Close the intake valve later and the actual compression ratio is changed.
Nothing new.
