2003 Fiesta semi-auto box problem *P0810 clutch position fault*
 
I have a 2003 1.4 16v fiesta with a semi-auto gear box (manual box with electronic clutch/gear change)

i have no idea what happened, it got taken in p/x as it is.

The car wont start, there is an orange warning light on the dash. it stays on when not in the N position and foot not on the brake. when N is selected and foot is on brake, it flashes but wont start.

when the gear stick is moed out of N, it jumps between 2 and 4, so it doesnt know what gear its in.

I have put power to the starter motor and the car started fine.

i scanned the transmission with Launch, and it came up with CLUTCH POSITION FAULT - P0810

I searched google for the fault and the only answer i found was that someone had exactly the same problem, they replaced the clutch, and reset it on the scanner and it cured their problem. before i buy a clutch kit, has anyone had any problems with this before??

Oh hi cupcake!

If I remember rightly some Fords throw a fit if a door is open? Not something silly like that throwing the code?

Exactly the same problem I've got with my wife's car, it's been off the road for 4 months now and has had new clutch, gearbox actuators and ecu and stills fails the IDS process to learn the gear process.

Easiest way is to convert it to manual, that's whatim looking into.

Alright Dan! Yeah heard about that mate, tried it with everything shut too and thats the only code that kept coming back.

And oh dear, sounds like you've spend cossie money trying to fix your one!! :-/

Hmm, before spending out may be worth going through the doors and checking the door switches? Is there a seperate ECU for the transmission?

Yeah theres a gearbox ecu. Bargain at 1850 quid plus vat! Pow!! The door light on the dash comes on when you open each door and bootlid seperatly... I checked that too. Some bloke on bba reman forum had exactly the same problem. He replaced the clutch and had the clutch position re-coded and it sorted his one. Dunno if its worth taking the box out and just having a look. The 2 actuators seem to be reasonably free, not seized or anything.

if clutch wont realign then you need to check wiring resistance and continuity...... the basics, then if it was me id have the box out and have a look, chances are its fucked and needs changed anyway as, rule of thumb theres a lot of "riding" done to keep things smooth

Right, last night i disconnected the battery. Today, i connected the battery and nothing changed. Then i disconnect both plugs on the gearbox ecu, they looked fine so i reconnected them. Then i turned the ignition on and it started! Went for a 10 mile drive and drove perfectly!! Got back, switched it off and tried it 4 hours later, and it was fine. Went to drive it home 20 mins later and it noting. The dash says no gear or N isnt selected. And wont start... Rescanned it and the clutch position fault is still there

This is a known ford fault happens on the focus's too I'm sure I've seen it pop up on auto data recall all the time ill have a look in sure its a simple fix

Defiantly a wiring/connection fault it may need a new plug?

At the Ford service told me that i have to change the clutch sensor,its located near and under the battery,and costs a lot.
They re-programmed the car but nothing.
Any suggestions?

The actual fault code indicates a fault with the wiring/connection to the clutch actuator, so that could be anything from the circuitry inside the actuator/sensor-harness plug-loom-fuse box(unless its a direct feed to the ecu)-ecu itself, the fact that the guy above disconnected it and it worked for a while indicates either a poor connection or the actuator

I would recommend pulling off the harness plug to the clutch actuator and see what the connection is like, also once done get the codes cleared off (making sure all doors are closed when doing this)

hello all some may already know this now but i will put this up now for anyone who is looking to seek the problem!

now after spending hours researching & tampering with my fusion durashit arrrrr i mean durashift semi auto going throw all the known problems listed on google & all that was happening was the neutral actuator was moving up an down, i accidentally banged the TCU (the computer where clutch actuator is) & everything started working again!

now i don't know exactly what i had done but i can only assume that i had a stuck relay inside the TCU or something, anyway if you are looking at this to find an answer maybe this will solve the problem worth a shot!

Hi Everyone I had same problem with my Fiesta 2003 so took to local garage and they said its fault on semi auto gearbox need to replace and it will cost you up £700 then i decided to make appointment with Ford main dealer in Stretford Manchester to diagnostic they just reset on computer and everything's work fine.. I just paid £95 for Diagnostic to find fault I think someone messed with TCM system Just need to reset only Thanks

I know this was 5 years plus ago but come across this tread today, just to say i did solve the problem in the end!

I scrap the bloody thing, belting car when it works but the cluch issue just seems impossible to fix, so the only way to fix it is scrap it!

Sorry if you was looking for a good outcome but that was my solution to the problem! Lol
