engine drain/cleaner
Would not use it myself, what i have done in the past is drained the old oil, then refilled with cheap engine oil,ran it for 30 mins or so then drained again and changed filter
the problem with oil flush is that yes it does work it strips all the dirt from the engine but also strips the layer of lubricant off that has been slowly building up on your crank and cams etc... thus leaving your engine in a bad way on the next startup, plus all the crap that gets washed back to the sump doesnt always get drained out as sumps rarely completley empty unless you remove them so you run the risk of the crap blocking your oil strainer on the pump and usually the crap will also block your turbo oil feed , this is rare yes but does happen especially on vw's and audi's
so like above just use cheap oil for half hour or so or just change your oil more often

7k+ seriously wouldn't worry about it.
You could always do what an old mate of mine did, open sump plug, start engine, pour oil through the filler and let it run straight out the bottom

All oils from the supermarket brands up to the likes of mobil 1 etc have additives added, one of them is a detergent, this detergent will pick up some of the crap and carry it around, suspended in the oil
My current oil is mobil 1 which im replacing for silkolene. So if mobil 1 has additives in it shouldnt need cleaning then?
with changes at 7k or less i wouldnt have thought you need any cleaner mate, silkolene is good stuff too go for the pro s allthough it is now called fuchs titan not silkolene its good stuff and a loveley shade of purple!
i.e wipe some oil on a piece of glass with ur hand use this so called cleaner on the oil and it should be gone and the surface oil free, that will show u if it works or not.
Me what i usally do is brag 2 x wynns (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=290136699222 ) bang them both in, take the car for spin approx for 20 mins, come back oils nice n warm, and then drain the sump. i do mine every time the oil start getting dirty, approx 8k miles, and thats on a 98k zetec lump!
if i dont use that then i usally bang a cup of petrol in the oil and give the motor 10 mins running at idle then flush it all.
been using wynns and the petrol method since the day i got my motor, and its still going, not one fault no extra knocking etc. run's fine drives great.
On a side note i also stick approx 1 litre of diesel oil in along with my usal castrol gtx 5w,30 oil to, xtra cleaning and seems to be quieter on startup especially in the cold.
The OLDER flushes were very harsh and did take away the carbon deposits so fast it came away in chunks and did damage things.
Modern flushes like Wynns are totally safe, and do work 100%.
The flush like wynns does not take away any lubricant properties at all.
I use 1 can of wynns prior to a engine change, but don't use it the way wynns state.
I put it in and drive for 200 miles before changing the oil at 12,000 miles, or 1 year old.
Has worked for me for around 25 years, my engine has just been rebuilt after 200,973 miles, and it certainly isn't a pampered car engine wise, I didn't buy it for that.
You will be perfectly safe with a decent flush like wynns, but it is possible that it may get noisier as it dislodges years and years worth of crap, but this should settle.
My engine was spotless inside when stripped, didn't even need washing in the hot tub at the engine shop, all oil passages were totally clean.
A problem with the cossie is the collection of congealed oil that collects in the oil feed galleries each side of the head at the rear esp on the hotter exhaust side, when this is broken down it could potentially jam a tappet hole at worst.
So the risk is yours, it's perfectly safe if it hasn't had a lot of missed oil changes, crap oil, most detergent packages in modern oils are excellent and there won't actually be much carbon build up, it's held in suspension in the oil, hence the oil going black so most comes out with oil changes.
I flush before each oil change myself on every car, astra has 237,000 on it now.
