come on peeps...... with greys, a t34, opened out inlet ports, 7.2cr, what will be the power limit of a properly mapped yb using only a 4x4 intercooler?
cant fit much bigger cos its a dax rush with limited frontal area?

thanks peeps - the escort charge cooler will not fit in a dax rush. even the standard 4x4 intercooler needs the end mounts chopping off to fit width wasy. the escort charge/intercooler is about 3-4 inches wider and will not fit.
doug - are those figures considering the limitations of the the intercooler?
any more suggetsions???

Maybe Mike R or Karl would post more accurate figures up.
i would NEVER expect a standard 4x4 cooler to cope with anything above 330 BHP
unless water injection is added, you can't tell how quickly the ACT's rise for any given time on full throttle with an ambient above 10 - 15 degrees C
I value my motors more than the price of a cooler or H2O injection
And 438BHP on a T34, wow I wish I could find one that produced that power safely with a C\R of 7.2:1

Even on the engine dyno you don't get 438bhp out of a T3/4
.
I would say that you would be lucky to get any more than 360bhp with even the Escort Cosworth set up on that c/r.
Would be flat as a fart off boost as well. 7.2 is really 500bhp and T4 c/r. You could actually bolt a T4 on and with a suitable map / and the Escort intercooler / seperation kit and get nigh on 400bhp or maybe more with suitable cams

the car has cams - dont know the spec ahmed supplied them (rally type cams) and its a lot lighter than a cosworth as well. alos consider that its a toy and when in 'toy' mode it doesn't spend a lot of time off boost. the t34/63 is a compromise between power and lag but the original question was really will the escort (non chargecooled) jobbie be the limiting factor for power?
pgt, why have you got cams?
if your using a t34.63 your never going to get over 390bhp especially with the space limitations in the dax, standard cas are good for 400bhp.
my mate had bd10's in his cossie robinhood, compleatly unnessasary and you dont need them imo

was going to put a t4 on originally. then had drive of a cossie with t4 but couldn't believe the lag............................................... ...............................
by then the engine was built (with the cams) and in ignorance and not wanting the lag, bought a t34 instead. previously it had greens and std cams with t3 and was a great point to point car with 4x4 intercooler. now its got lower comp / cams / greys/ -34 / t34 and wakes up later (3800rpm) but it revs lots and lots. not as easy to drive around the lanes mind with more lag.
its difficult finding space to put a chargecooler, certainly there is no space to have this AND 4x4 interccoler. frontal area will only allow a 15inch wide x 10inch x 2 inch deep intercooler if it went in front of the rad. this prob would not be enough but would allow for a charge cooler before the intercooler as well cos the 4x4 intercooler from a cossie sits about 6 inches in front of the pulleys in a rush normally and is well back so doesnt look a good air path from a cooling standpoint. the chargecooler would sit in the space currently used by the 4x4 cooler so maybe these 2 together would do the job.
spoke to dave at pace and he reckons their 4 core chargecooler would do the job alone, the prob is what ever is done ie intercooler or charge cooler or both, there is still only limited frontal area to supply cooling to whatever method.
i reckon the chargecooler route would be good for road use as it allows a 'heat battery' effect as the engien would only be on boost for small periods, but for track use can't see a real benefit.
does anyone have a feel for the efficiency of the 4x4 cooler?. for example is doesnot seem to have turbulator in the pipes and it is a bout 6 inches deep. i suppose if its heat transfer abilities were good then the rear of it would be doing nowt to cool the compressed air going through it cause the cooling air would already be hot from cooling the frontal part hence the depth of it??
modern intercoolers seem to be thinner - prob more efficient. i guess it all comes down again to frontal area

15 x 10 x 2 would be big enough for a chargecooler surely? , have you got the space to mount the water jacket section elsewhere?
