best way to store an engine block
i just brought a cvh block for me to build a spare engine with
it wont be getting used until things pick up again at work so will be some time yet whats the best way to store it? would covering it in grease be ok? or that rust prevention paper? any tips? thanks gus |
I oil mine up and rap um in industrial role cling film lol
does the trick |
Just put it in the S1, you have stored one in there for ages and its MINT!:content:
|
oil it up all over and where ever theres a hole, inside it, wrap it up and bobs your aunty with bollocks.
|
wd40 all over it, bores oil gallery's, water holes etc
then wrap it in clingfilm, works a treat, keeps the moisture out and wd in |

could do, there is a lump missing in there now as original engine is out again:wall: |
oil and grease it all up then rap up in cling film. Spray grease works well
|
Oil it up is the key, they rust very quickly if you leave the machined faces exposed.
|
Cover it in WD40 and airline the worst of it off. Will leave a good film on without it being dripping wet/forming puddles.
|
I wouldnt use WD40 as a long term lubricant or moisture protection as it will evaporate with time. ;)
|
Just store it somewhere warm and damp free covered in some sheets.
Under the bed? Wardrobe? Loft? |
de watering oil works well
|
So i should be storing my 200 bottom end in a better fashion than just in the corner of the garage upside down on a bit of carpet? lol

|
my orion was laid up for 4 years water drained and left (plugged up all the holes tho).
when i come to use it again ended up getting blow by on 1 cyclinder so rust had got on to the liners :( |
as said above some spray on grease etc and lightly spray it on all machined surfaces and if you feel it necessary wrap it in cling film.
|
cheers chaps
with the spray grease do i just cover everything, bores, water ways everything is the anti corrosion paper (what you get on brake discs) worth doing? |
do not use wd40 as it will rust in no time,
