Can anyone help? I am trying to identyfy a Ford 1.8td intercooled engine. Does anyone know how I could I/D this engine to determine which model it is 60 bhp or 90 bhp.
I beleive it to be approx 1998 model (pre endura).
Appreciate any direction.

i wouldn't have thought the 60bhp model to be intercooled in my opinion. Or even turbo'd for that matter. What car did it come out of do you know

Intercooled variants will be 90bhp.

Does it have "1.8 Diesel" on the cam cover? Chances are its still an Lynx / Endura engine - there are several different types; Endura-D, Endura-DE and Endura-DI.

Thanks for reply. Cam cover has no obvious molded writing on (unless was old decal and may have come off). Told that it came out of 98 escort. Bought it to put in my van, but thought I would strip and play first. Seems in good nick despite corroded core plug in head. Just did not want to waste time if was only 60 bhp. General thoughts here is if intercooled - should be 90 bhp. A bit more grunt (not much).
Any suggestions as to getting more horses out of this motor? Will porting work? Not a great engine but will give me something to do over winter.
Thanks fella's

I'm pretty sure you can just turn up the fuel pump for a few more ponies, although you may get some black smoke while booting it.
