Default Are X reg Xr3's rare?

Basically there's a bloke who lives a couple of doors down from the misses who has a MK2 Escort, MK3 XR3 and MK4 XR3i rotting on his drive but refuses to sell them. I can remember them being there 10+ years ago and none have moved.

Thing is I was talking to a customer this morning and mentioned it and he said you should try and get that XR3 bought they didn't make very many on an X plate and will go for silly money soon. Is that true?

Not sure what model The mk2 is. It's under a tarpaulin sheet. just saw the rear wheel arch when morning when the wind had blown it up. It's a 2 door though and has a rear spoiler.

2 door mk.2 will be worth more than the xr3's.

could be an rs2000,have to have a word with him to see if he wants to sell up.

As said started on W reg, priced at Ł5,123, X reg not uncommon, though any remaining will be most rusted away.
I much prefer the XR3 to the i, the XR3 was advertised with 0-60 in 8.6 seconds and 113 mph.
I can remember a epic battle between my dad and the Golf Gti in front of us on the autobahn, we just had the edge by like 1 or 2 mph!!
That was in 1980, he had the first BFG(british forces germany) one bought through the Polar group, tax free for Ł2879.
That was stratos silver, was rhd but a x demo car with only 200 miles on it, but a few differences to the std uk spec ones, ie no rear fog lights for one.
When imported here they put it on a X reg despite being april 1980, XPV743X.
There were two german ones local one was yellow, the other bright orange, colours which were never listed, but both like it since new, as both were.

A mate of mine had a yellow xr3 a few years back. It was full RS1600i spec. Prairie yellow IIRC.

xr3 started on a w, but thats not to say that the x plate aint rare, now i mean how many g/h plates do you see knocking around now so id call the x plater rare as, would be a nice buy ive always fancied an early xr3

In germany they start production on cars for their market before ours, the official left hand drive escort cosworths came out before the rhd's,same with xr3's.
you could get w,x,y reg uk spec xr3 and you could get xr3i's on a y reg too or if the car was a left hand drive imported into the uk i saw x reg xr3i's.
and again the same went for rs1600i's,they came out in germany before the uk and i have seen lhd x reg rs1600i's.

I had a 1980 mk2 escort HHK 366Y, yes on a Y registration, and date of first reg was 1980, NOT 82, when imported from Jersey they issued it with CURRENT plate not age related, don't ask me why.
I was wrong it was not april, it was March 1980, but had been at dealers since feb 1980.
I know the date of the car arriving as I was there when we picked it up, two days before a famous exercise.

If you research it there are reportedly LESS than 20 XR3's left on the road. A mate has a Black X plate and was considering selling it until he found a press cutting of how few are left.
