escort will have a few more probs imo, just because they are older.

the good news is that they can be fixed quite easy and cheaply.

Would not like to trt and fix an evo.

Evo will be more reliable and have less problems, but as said, the escort is more easy and cheaply repaired and is really down to how much power is being squeezed out and how!

Personally to me it would be more about which gives the biggest buzz to own and ability to turn heads due to its rarerty, cossy all the way

Something about a decent escos that makes you stop and stare in the street, something that an Evo, for me anyway, doesn't have the same effect, becoming to common.

got very bored with the evo but it was used every day .the escos only used on sunny days.could never imagine putting the evo away for winter it was used and abused in all ways .dont think the escos would havr fared the same.to me the cos is much to precious to abuse.if you got ohe i would guarantee you would do the same as most and tuck it away for winter and if you buy a evo you will be thinking of selling this time next year

when i had my 6, over 3 years ago - they were still very rare and people were chopping in escoss in left right and centre and it was a hard decision at the time whether the saph wne in against a mint low milage evo 6 or mint low milage escos -(both around 22K£) the dealer talked me into the fact that he'd rather have the evo back in 2 years than the escos - but now, as there are getting so many evos' they are fallin inprice (new as well as s/h) the rarer of the 2 is now becoming more salable - as a matter of interest... i paid 22K for the evo, sold it 1 year later for 18 having spent 5K on 'sensible mods and running it'( pipe, chip, fuel pump , tyres etc). i then paid 15 for the escos 2 years ago, and its still worth at least that today, but ive spent around 5K on 'essential repairs' sensors, clutch, fusebox, brakes etc ect.

dont get me wrong i'd rather have had the evo and lost a bit when they were rare than pay 12k for one now that needs bits doing to make it right again. neither are cheep to run, the evo is the more 'brilliant' car but the escos has more charecter, presence and hold value better in the long run.

I know what your saying, but the problem is which ever car i go for it will be used EVERYDAY.

Can you really use an escos everyday, surely it would get ruined (being an older car) and they are more 'precious'!

im in same situation as u chunny and im leaning towards cossie as i cannot handle the depreciation of evos. although if they both had the same depreciation i would probably be looking at evos

for an everyday car the evo BUT not in the snow - they are lethal in the ice/snow as there is no suspension give and the tyre walls are so thin - they break away and try to swap ends - horrible i the ice - horrble.

i had a 4x4 saph for every day for 3 years - that was good in all wether, the evo was everyday for 1 year, but eh escos is tucked away for the winter now - its more the fact that u get goons who cant drive running in the back u and breaking bit that are like hens teeth to find.

i wouldnt let you buy my car if you was gonna use it everyday.but i know what car id have .it would most definately be the escos.people who drive their escos all year round get my greatest admiration be one of those people mate and enjoy also you will soon find out how much you would lose if you bought an evo now.as said before give it a year and it will be up for sale

the normal ones are:

sloppy suspension due to old rubber suspension bushes -(fit PU ones)

electrical gremlins due to naf fusebox and engine multiplug connection - (new fusebox and join 2 looms togeher without connections)

oil consumption - a cossie will gobble a litre of oil every 600 miles (FROM NEW!) the oil never dropped at all inbetween services on teh evo.

breather system - the cossie one can just about handle 280 brake - but on older more tired cars with more blow by this needs upgrading also - the evo breather system is fine to around a good 400+ bhp.

an evo will run 350 brake out od the box with a pipe fuel pump and chip.
the cossie needs new chip, pipe, pump, injectors, sensors, breather etc

not being funny but milage isnt worth the look as people change engines day in day out so haveing 1 say 3000 or 8000 it could be wroung as when you go to by a car you will listen to the engine weather its got 60.000 or 2.000 so what iam trying to say is a evo isnt as funn and doesnt have the look off a escort cossy its 2 differnt things her jap and cosworth your gona end up putting cosworth bits on the evo if you what to mod it any way go for the daddy and by the escort rs cosworth and make it rwd all 4x4 are boring not as fun

Both as bad as each other if driven hard......

Both as good as each other if respected.....

I know 1 guy who had an Esc Cos and drove it hard all the time and regularly broken it and also have a mate with an Evo 6 who also drives it hard and in less than 10,000 miles went thru 2 rear diffs, 1 gearbox and 4 clutches so anyone who tells you Evo's are bullet proof need to drive theirs harder

Mine gets used daily, replaced/uprated most of the age related parts (brakes, suspension, bushes etc) and looked after it and it's been a good one. Ran my previous EsCos every day too, only downside I had then was the fuel bill due to mileage - still never really let me down (with anything out of the ordinary, that couldn't happen to any car).

I do get tempted by the EVO from time to time, but tbh, I think I'd be more worried owning an evo than an EsCos (complex diff's, clutches, brakes) But that might be a bit of 'better the devil you know' ?

I love EVO's (especially EVO VII's)..........

they are ALL fantastic to drive

Biggest problem from an ownership point of view it the "next" model
is only ever 6 to 8 months away, and of course the new model is
always better......The new EVO 9 (IX) is only 3 months away,
available in March 2005:

Both are reliable in the right hands, I have many High miles Escorts no problem, Highest Evo so far 105,000 miles,
2 sets of front disc several sets of front and rear pads,1 clutch at 55k,1 set of lifters, that is it, this car has been on many track days and has been enjoyed on the road, I dont think you can complain at that.

Thanks for all the info.

My main concern with the escos is using it in this crappy weather!! Will the bodywork get badly affected? (being old and a ford)!
