Default Help - upgrading RAM - how does it work?

If you wanted to upgrade your RAM, how do you go about it? Would you just need another RAM of the same size (ie you have say, 256mb so you add another 256mb module) or do you need to have another of EXACTLY the same type (ie: same make, model, size etc) or could you add one made by a different manufacturer (ie, aftermarket one) as long as it is the same size as the one you have in your machine and if it is compatible with your machine....

Anyone help me?

Thrush, RAM can be a simple thing or a complete nightmare.
Easy options here. Either look at the model number on you Mother Board then go onto the net and have a look what the manufacturer says or I have heard some good things about crucial.com

Im fussy and always use the same make. but its not essential. Size again does not really matter. Unless its a Dual DDR Board.

I was looking for a mate who has 128mb of ram in his Laptop (dell) and wants to upgrade so I said I'd look - and found a listing on ebay for a 128mb RAM module which is compatible with his laptop (has his model number in the compatible with list) but the RAM itself is not made by Dell, hence my question....

Laptops are fun tooooo. The stuff we used to sell Toshiba and Advent were well fussy. I have seen some ram damage the boards too.

I know some places charge and dont charge for Ram installation but least if they fook it up they fix it.
