Default Subs

Hi,

Basically, I'd like to put a sub into my car, not sure if it will make the audio sound any better (not big on ICE)?

Just wondering if I will be able to notice a difference in sound? At the moment, it's just a standard set up in a focus.

I was looking at the 12" Edge ED612 Active in Halfords for a hundred quid?

Are they easy to fit?

Any help would be appreciated.

with out upgrading the standard speakers as well a sub is pointless and may make the sound quality worse .

So this is pointless without upgrading the whole speaker system?

in my opinion yes but speaker upgrades for the whole system can be done quite cheaply

hi... im not into stereo systems at all but i have a little sub in the boot with a built in amp and std speakers the rest of the car and it does sound a lot better to me.. no bass coming through the speakers just the sub but like i said not into banging sound systems and to be honest some of the show cars with all that gear in would sound shite with my music in them anyway ..

Well I just saw Top Gear a couple of weeks ago and saw that Golf with that sub in the boot and it sound pretty good?

Didn't really want to mod the whole system, just try and make it sound a bit better.

i'd say get a got set of components up front and a sub and amp for the boot, ive never heard/seen the one you've linked to, to me it doesn't look like a quality item

as gibbo said give it a try and see what you think , what you got to loose ? (£100)lol . are you still using the standard head unit ? if it were me i would start with the the 4 standard speakers and change them out for up graded items i think you will notice a diffrence with just there , may be a 2 way component speaker in the front.

Focus' have decent OE speakers, so 'upgrading them' won't make much difference. It's also pointless fitting posh speakers if you're not going to have sufficient amplification - When speakers 'crap out' as you wind the volume up it's more to do with the amp reaching it's limits, rather than limits with the speakers themselves. As for the sub, it won't sound amazing for that kind of cash, but it'll add more bass - Finally what headunit have you got, as not many OE headunits have RCA outs so you might not be able to add an amp/sub.

a sub will give the sound more bass without having to distort the standard speakers but to make the system sound better, like has been said, start off with the head unit, you will have to change this to have the outputs for the sub anyway, then upgrade your door speakers with some better ones, the sound will be soo much better than the paper cone speakers you have at the moment, it will mean stripping the car out a bit but you have to get the edges of the carpet up anyway to put the sub cables in .

i give FLI the thumbs up for cheap audio, they are vibe re-stickered just at affordable prices, i had FLI in my car and it really is good value, i gave it beans everyday for work and back, and they all held up lovely.

is your head unit standard. if so you have to make a wire up for the remote plug on the amp to the sub to trigger the power on the amp. ie with a after market headunit you get a sub remote from the back of it to go to the amp. its usually between the positive and ground plugs on the amp.
