Who Has Created The Most Poweful Cosworth In The World?

I thought it was MAD as I read a quote in someone's Signature which stated the following;

MA DEVELOPMENTS - CREATORS OF THE FASTEST AND MOST POWERFUL COSWORTH YB ENGINES ON THIS FORUM AND IN THE WORLD
Phil used to always mention Julian Godfrey so I assumed they was the most powerful until I read the above quote, as by their own admission they are barely ever wrong so I didn't think they would post something in their signature which was not correct. However, the signature has now changed and does not state they are the most powerful, just the fastest. I know MAD are the fastest, but are they the most powerful?

Just curious really, not after an argument, so don't reply if you are.

I am doing college work and designing a leaflet for a friends new business venture. Too early for what? It's a simple question and doesn't need to turn into an argument what-so-ever. As soon as an argument starts I would like the moderators to delete it.

Good question Benni, I hope it stays on topic.
I have no graphs or data to back any of this up, but i'm sure I saw a claimed 1092bhp a while back? Though this was disputed in a recent thread. Either way, speaking non-factually (so therefore pretty useless) it is the highest I've heard of.

lots of people claim things .... theory and practial are slightly different ...
would be nice to see a claimed high powered engine turn out to be lower BUT still deliver the results ... now that to me is a good builder....

and as soon as it does go south the thread will be sorted out ..

No problem, I'll know why it's gone and completely agree with your decision.

Massively true, I'm not even slightly sure of that numbers accuracy, but the highest Ive heard uttered. And yes it would be nice to see an engine perform like that, would be impressive to say the least! :king:

Julian Godfrey produced several 850bhp cossie lumps for John cross's rally cross cars

Kverna 01-12-2008 07:10 AM

972 from Jenspeed, Norway ?

Charlie Chalk 01-12-2008 07:12 AM

What cc engines we talking here?

Chip 01-12-2008 07:23 AM

Should think its one of the scandanavian companies for most power seen briefly on a dyno, thy seem to love a bit of that over there.

dovboy 01-12-2008 07:35 AM

that blue escos from greece claimed 1158bhp:?

jens at 921bhp?

neil andeRSon 01-12-2008 07:45 AM

i was gonna say was there not one in norway sittin about the 1Kbhp mark??

That's right. I'm sorry

Rod-Tarry 01-12-2008 07:56 AM

Are we talking drag engines or street engines with full boost below 4.5k, you cant have both. Think Julian is probably leading the way in the later with 879 bhp a figure that we will be chasing on Friday. The Scandys build 1.8litre 10k reving drag engines with Power approaching 1100bhp, Never seen one of those run full Power in a car . With the gas we will be approaching that 1100bhp & will be on the rollers to prove it.

Benni 01-12-2008 08:11 AM

I hope you beat his figure Rod; would be fantastic for you and MAD. :)

Turbocabbie 01-12-2008 08:21 AM

im curious to know what octane fuel people are running to get these supposed figures

joffy 01-12-2008 08:33 AM

aaah rod, you are forgetting, without full tuv approval those roller figures mean nothing lol

Matt Evans 01-12-2008 08:44 AM

In respect of rod's quote above, would the 1.8 engine be designed purely so it could rev to those much higher numbers?

Either way, theres some massive numbers being talked about here!

TimC 01-12-2008 09:29 AM

SSomebody correct me if im wrong but im sure I once read that Karl Norris' 3 door was smaller capacity then standard?

Apparently so, Ive never seen a bore and stroke detailed though

Have used 120 ron & could not get det even at 26deg ignition but way too agressive. Now use higher compression & 109 to keep cylinder pressures under control.
They are not supposed figures if all you want is Power, mine is still very much a compromise to aid drivability, relatively small ports (way below 27mm) mild exhaust cam & standard valves. Power is not a problem but difficult if you want to drive the friggin thing.

Probe engine by Julian Godfrey, its not a Scandy screamer & around 880bhp, maybe a tad more now.

godfrey used to build cosworth yb engines years ago but they weren't the fastest, they were scandanavian, he built rallycross motors where absolute power was required and his wern't absolutley fast

paul16v 01-12-2008 03:47 PM

There was an engine on display at autosport a year or 2 back that was claimed to be over 900bhp, jems i tihnk the comany was called i did have a pic of it ill see if i can find it.

zetecherb 01-12-2008 04:27 PM

Type of fuel has a big impact on HP,
Road fuel,
Race fuel
Methonal,
and any other concoction all this makes them difficult to compare,
The answer to the question is I have no idea.

Think I said that his engines around 880bhp nearer to my road engine than a Scany Screamer.

Who's sig was it then?

If it is meant to be mine (I think that is what mine used to say but cant remember the exact wording), I havent changed it at all, its been how it is now since it was deleted by Maria last week.

You seem to be confusing "most powerful" though with "highest peak BHP figure" to me the most powerful one is the one with the biggest area under the curve, so that is what I was referring to, and the biggest Ive ever seen is Rod's in this respect.
