Right, this happened last 2 times I started the car from cold. I start it up fine and all that but when the car is cold, when you get to 2000rpm something seriously starts vibrating
I dont know what it is and I've tried everything. I think it might be coming from the exhaust, I dont know. Certainly sounds like its coming from the rear of the car. Is certainly more audible when the car is cold. I think its there when fully warmed up but nowhere near as loud. I just dont know what it is. 2000rpm is where it happens. Above or below it doesnt.
Its really annoying me because I dont know what it is and cant find it.

is it possible to adjust the car to idle at 2000rpm so you can crawl underneath to see whats causing it?
PassionFord Post Whore!!
Are you sure its not a misfire?
Coil packs are quite common for giving up the ghost on these?
When did you last change the plugs etc?
You could try changing the plugs, when you put the leads back on though, squirt a little electrical contact grease up the leads, you can sometimes get a misfire if you put the leads on dry on these.
Hope this helps?

thanks for the help guys. deffo not a misfire. know what that sounds like.
when I get to 2000rpm its like a metal vibration. like you havent screwed something down properly and its a very high frequency low bassy metal vibration. say you havent screwed a door speaker on properly. that sort of metal to metal vibration.
I got my bro to hold it at 2000rpm or so and I was crawling around the car trying to identify where but thats hopeless since I cant get anywhere underneath. I feel its coming from the exhaust but could well be something in the boot or something. Ive tried things like keeping the bonnet, boot, doors open to see if it gets louder or quieter but nothing really seems to make a difference.
shall have to get it up on the ramps on saturday to have a proper look but the car is going to be warm then and it only does it properly when cold

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Possibly a heat shield...
Wouldn't explain the going away when hot though...

I asked my bro to hold it again at 2000rpm and walked all the way round the car until I got to the nsf wheel where it got louder and louder. I then looked in the bonnet and could visibly see the whole heatshield vibrating and rattling. Pushed it away from the battery tray and hey presto the rattle disappears!

now all u got to do is sort the rattle in the boot
funnily enough now you are all taking the piss, I have to sort out my install in the boot anyway as I havent had time to do it as I've wanted and tidy all the wires plus make use of all 4 channels on my amp.Originally Posted by mechanic28
