Default Focus ST170 P1518 Code

Hello people...

lookin for some advice/help with my focus (2004 ST170)...

Driving to work this morning, Heard what i thought was a stone hitting the underside of the car (somehow dont think it was anymore).... then a short period after the E.M.L came on and i noticed a rattling, like a heatsheild rattle noticeable from inside the car...

i got the car to work, and borrowed a universal code reader, which presented me with the P1518 code... i looked the code up on the net and found P1518 Intake manifold runner control stuck open....

the rattle i now think is the flap in the inlet manifold that breaks up/off ? but im unsure as to how the system works and what the likeley causes and solutions are...

any tips advice most welcome

thanks very much in advance

hi mate i heard that bang to, i think its your CAT heat shield bracket that has snaped, which is the bracket u may need replacing, cost me from main dealers £80 fuking rip off,

Rattle, rattle. What's that? Oh, it's that darn CAT heatshield rattling when you're around the 2,000rpm mark. This usually happens when the nuts around the hole has rusted away and came loose. Some say it's better to remove the heatshield, but the heatshield job is to stop the heat spreading around. So it's better to leave it on

but if you hearing a rattle noise then 100% sure its dat CAT bracket heres a link which can be done in a cheaper way!

on this link click the 3rd one down, this site will help on many other issues.

hope this helps. Ziggy

P1518 is not the cat heatshield.

Its the inlet manifold runner controll system. As you said the linkage breaks keeping the flaps open or even the controll unit goes wrong. They make a horrific noise inside when they break. I think you can fix the clip if its that but your best bet is to do a search on here.
