iirc the mk2 focuses and newer mondys have a real duratec in them. Easiest way to tell is by looking at the cam belt area. Belt = Zetec, chain = duratec

most prob 2005 onwards. Might be able to pick an engine up on flea bay cheap from a crunched focus or mondy?
Theres a nice one on there now for 7k brand new! Burtons had something on their site about all the diff ford engines. Might be worth a look?

This is off Burton Powers site:

Duratec HE

The Duratec HE engine is the latest 4 cylinder engine from Fords that, due to it’s near perfect dimensions and characteristics, provides an ideal platform for a performance engine that can be modified with relative ease. Built around an aluminium block, these engines weigh around 92kg (less clutch and alternator). As a natural progression from the Zetec E engine, the Duratec HE is rapidly becoming a popular transplant engine for classic RWD cars and kit cars. We are therefore able to supply most conversion parts for such applications (as we already provide for the Zetec E), along with a range of modified engine components. This engine has currently only been fitted to Mondeo models produced after 2001 and is available in 1.8 and 2.0 capacities. A 2.3 version is also produced in the USA. It should not be confused with the Duratec V6 Mondeo engine or the new Duratec 1.3 and 1.6 SOHC engines that are being fitted to the latest Ka and StreetKa models (nice one Fords!!)

any newish 2.0 Focus or Mondeo would have the proper Duratec. Those and the Fiesta ST, of course.

Get hold of the engine from a crashed Mazda 3 or 6 MPS.

2.3 Turbo Duratec with direct injection, 250odd bhp as standard, with supposedly the potential for over 1000...

Happy days...

Mazda call Duratecs MZR engines if that helps your search.

In all new Mazdas really, from MX5s to less gay stuff.

The turbo one is the DISI and has been shortlisted more than once for "worlds best engine" awards...

Apart from the cam chain, the more obvious difference is the intake is at the front of the engine and the exhaust is at the back. Unlike the zetec which is the other way around.

The mazda versions can also come with VVT on the intake unlike the ones ford uses. The engine has huge potential, shame cosworth didn't get around the selling the d-power stage 3 as that was a nice cheap upgrade to 240+bhp, you can still get all the bits to make your own stage 3 mind you.

Why the newer focus ST came the heavier 5pot volvo lump instead of the 2.3 turbo duratec sums up what wrong with todays performance fords , they have all the bits to make a high performance 4x4 focus in the various company part bins instead we get another volvo s40, at least mazda made an effort with their version of the c2 focus.

the focus st170 and fiesta st150 are both zetecs. any new shape mondy(x reg onwards) will have a duratec in them.1.8's are 125ps and 2.0's are 145ps. never seen a new shape focus 1.8 or 2.0 yet,and i work in a friggim ford garage so they must be a bit thin on the ground.all seem to be 1.6's(zetec) or 1'6/2.0 diesels.

have u ever looked under the bonnet of either

st170 is zetec-e
st150 is a new duratec

and i'm not surprised everyone thinks ford garages are shit if they employ monkeys like you who cant recognise two totally different engines

Sorry mate, that's rubbish. I've got an ST and it's definitely a proper Duratec, chain driven and all (see attached picture for cam chain)
