Octane boosters

How long do they last in a tank?

I put a full tank of optimax plus booster in the car yesterday and im just wondering will it still be at full strenth come the weekend at USC?

Anonymous 01-08-2006 01:18 PM

Given that most of the ones on the market do nothing anyway, im sure the effect at the weekend will be the same.

what octane boost did you use?

White RS1600i 01-08-2006 01:20 PM

The nos 6 point stuff. Only stuff they had at halfords

Ill be ordering some of the nf stuff soon though.

Anonymous 01-08-2006 01:25 PM

total waste of time mate, honestly

3drstretch 01-08-2006 01:26 PM

And your proof if this is chip ????

I sell millers and every customer i've sold it to have reported gains in all aspects of there car's performnace. :blabla: :blabla: :blabla:

You sure mate? :?

I have to run it, my cars an import...
I normally just run the 3 point stuff but seeing as ill be racing at the pod this weekend i thought i might aswell whack in the 6 point stuff.

Im sure it cant be rubish at £20 a fookin bottle!

Proof is, map a car, listen to where it Det's

Poor in octane boost, try it again, oh look no difference at all.

you only have to look at the size of the tubs that most of this stuff comes in to realise its NEVER going to bring a worthwhile increase to 60 litres of fuel!

cheapest one that actually works IMHO is toluene, mix in about 10% and off you go

I would argue that your customers are just reporting on the placebo effect TBH mate

And that "6 points" is reffering to a "point" as in 0.1

And yet people pour it into 98 rom and think that they magically have 104ron.

Try running a 102 map on it and see how long it lasts

3drstretch 01-08-2006 01:36 PM

well i have a few facts for you.

scoob made 60bhp more on NF RACE which is 60points/6 RON proof that it works. All recorded on a dyno.

And i also recall 1 of the mags doing back to back tests that all tested proved and increase on figures etc.

So tests prove it works theory doesnt

White RS1600i 01-08-2006 01:40 PM

So my question still stands, will it be as 'ardcore!' as it was yesterday come Saturday?

3drstretch 01-08-2006 01:45 PM

Should be ok mate.Cant see it going off that much in such a short amount of time(BUT i'm no expert)Could always add some more if you feel if will be safer dont think it can be over strong. :?

White RS1600i 01-08-2006 01:47 PM

Cheers fella :top:

NF works well mate, its the cheap and cheerfull stuff im doubting

Ive used NF myself and seen a difference, also two of the lads on the vauxhall TOTB were running it quite happily this weekend.

Its just the crap you buy in garages and halfords and stuff that im on about.

SapphyMike 01-08-2006 02:06 PM

if you only have a map for 98ron, would the extra ron the booster gives make any difference?

wildheart 01-08-2006 02:21 PM

The way i see it is most of its just a fancy label.

Take lead replacement additives,A test was done and there was only a very few that actualy worked with some making the fuel worse!

I use NF at the advice of my tuner :top:

Without advancing the timing you are more likely to lose power than gain it, but if you are on the limit of Det, it can be a useful added protection if you are using it flat out for a long time.

Garage19 01-08-2006 02:25 PM

Unless you have a self optimising ecu eg knock control there is no point..... unless you have mapped to suit.

The millers CVL turbo has let me run settings that were det city on boggo stock fuel. So it does work when used correctly.

Ditto, with datalogged proof.

SapphyMike 01-08-2006 03:24 PM

your average person isnt going to want to run too close to the envelope though really are they.

i dont want to have to rely on an additive to stop my engine going pop.. i'd rather rely on the skills of my mapper knowing exactly what to map to.

CossieRich 01-08-2006 03:28 PM

Millers Octane Boost works well. Makes your plugs go a brown colour though for some reason

Thats been worrying me for a while, plugs went brown. Didnt make the link though.

Ive only used it as safety net when pushing the car hard, rather than increase timing to benefit from any power increase it *may* produce

Anonymous 01-08-2006 03:52 PM

jonzy, thats the same way we have used the NF

Thats the same way i use it. I was just worried weather or not to push it at the weekend if the formula drops off a little bit.
