Probably need the engine code to work it out.

costina 28-07-2016 03:07 PM

87 to 89 choice is yours

bigdel 28-07-2016 07:12 PM

The first two letters of the engine number will tell you the year of the manufacture of the vehicle it came from.
My engine number starts GA which makes it November 1986 which is pretty much the last batch of normal 3 doors I'm led to believe.
See here - http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-gu...ure-dates.html

my engine code starts ybb

bigdel 28-07-2016 07:54 PM

That's the engine code. The engine number will tell you the year of manufacture.

Michael Dunne 28-07-2016 09:42 PM

ybb18452 ?

bigdel 28-07-2016 09:50 PM

that doesn't look like an engine number. That's the number stamped on the front of the block isn't it?
The engine number is on the bottom right hand side of the block just behind the oil filter.

Michael Dunne 28-07-2016 09:56 PM

that is what is on my log book

Michael Dunne 28-07-2016 09:57 PM

think i will just call it a 88 engine ha

bigdel 28-07-2016 10:00 PM

is it in a car? if it's the original engine it'll be the last 7 digits of the chassis number

bigdel 28-07-2016 10:07 PM

Here's a paragraph that explains what each engine type is and what car they were originally fitted into. Your YBB is a Red Top engine, but exactly what year of manufacture it's difficult to tell unless you know the engine number:

The various colour cam covers that distinguished each version were as follows: Red: YBB (Sierra Cosworth 2wd, both 3-door and Sapphire), YBD (Sierra RS500), YBJ (Sierra Sapphire 4wd, non cat); Green: YBG (catalyst equipped 4x4 Sierra Sapphire Cosworth); Blue: YBT (large-turbo Escort Cosworth); Silver: YBP (small-turbo Escort Cosworth).

its a escort rs2000 with this engine fitted.

bigdel 28-07-2016 10:23 PM

ah, so could be any year between 86 & 88 i guess

Adam-M 28-07-2016 10:31 PM

Seen that car on eBay looked a decent enough toy, is it clean enough in person?

Michael Dunne 28-07-2016 11:01 PM

yeah its clean for the year although not immaculate. good for a 18 year old unrestored car.

martysmartie 29-07-2016 12:54 PM

That must have been registered incorrectly as the engine number, when it was changed.

The engine number is on the turbo side of the engine (seven characters)

Presume the 'YBB' number is some sort of casting number, as above the engine number is underneath the turbo. Here's mine

I think I will call it a 88 ! It's just to order parts when they ask year.

Just say its a 205 blocked 2wd engine the only thing that differs are the head bolt washer size. All gaskets and internals are all the same.
