A pillar weather strip!

Hi, I'm looking for a replacement weather strip for the o/s A post of my 3dr but can't find any anywhere.
Can you still get these new anywhere? They don't look difficult to manufacture.
Anyone know of any companies who could make me a new one perhaps? There must be more people than me looking for these.
Any help much appreciated.

Cragrat 21-08-2015 08:16 PM

I was lucky a few years back and got some new ones from a small local Ford dealer who still had some, paid £23 for them so I think you can safely say £450 is taking the piss!

I bid on a pair on EBay and they sold for £585..
The seller messaged me the next day saying he had another brandnew set for £500 through PayPal. If I wasn't happy I could return them with a full refund.
They arrived perfect in original ford packaging.

At the end of the day if your cars Just been painted or restored and just needs these then it a no brainer IMO. :top:

The trouble is all the time people pay these crazy prices it will encourage others who may have parts to just pick a number , treble it and take a chance.
There are lots of Ford enthusiasts that are getting priced out of the market now when it comes to buying spares to maintain their cars.

cozzy jeff 04-09-2015 09:23 AM

I managed to re-use mine,looks like I've saved a few quid.

RUBBISH:sleeping:
The cars are classics now and dealers haven't had parts for over a decade so the enevitable happens.
The cars go up in price and so do the parts....

There are still some places that stock genuine Ford spares that sell them for normal prices. I bought brand new electric window switches and black rubber bumper inserts when I had my bumpers re-painted recently for my 1990 2wd Sapphire. I realise parts are getting harder to find now but is it fair to ask such crazy prices for them?

So if you had some new ones and they are £23 each from ford but fetching £500 a pair you'd sell yours for £46??!!
I don't think so!

Strange as it may sound I personally would not sell parts for the purpose of ripping people off. I would feel guilty if I had bought parts for £23 and then asked £500 for them.
I notice that someone may have the bayonet type oil filler cap that 63np is after, I bet they will only ask a small amount or nothing for it as they will pass it on to help him out as one Ford enthusiast to another.
Greedy people selling parts for every last penny they can get is one of my pet hates!

R4N SS 08-09-2015 12:50 PM

thanasis - i offer 50 quid for the pair?

Topjoe9 08-09-2015 01:07 PM

A post weather strips.

I have managed to source a new pair from America delivered for £70.
I will inspect them when they get home and hopefully may be able to get some more. If so they will be £70 plus postage. I've no interest in profiteering from others trying to restore these cars!
On saying that they may be crap! Will keep you posted!

R4N SS 08-09-2015 01:38 PM

can you pm me a link please

Topjoe9 08-09-2015 01:52 PM

It's just a guy not a website. They were on US eBay.
I will message him to see if he can get any more.

R4N SS 08-09-2015 01:55 PM

great - i have tried searching but cant find anything

IainRS1700T 08-09-2015 03:35 PM

I'd heard East Kent Trim (think I've got that right) were looking into supplying aftemarket versions. They're the guys that do all the door seals, window rubbers etc.
Cheers
Iain

Be good if they can make some and sell them for a reasonable amount.

R4N SS 09-09-2015 10:08 AM

Luckily I still have a genuine brand new grille seal here

Topjoe9 09-09-2015 02:39 PM

Ok my weather seals arrived home today. They are about an inch longer than the oe ones but can be easily trimmed down but apart from that they look a perfect match.
I enquires about the availability of more and he said they were from Merkur when they were trading and he could get half a dozen or so but he wants 220 dollars a set! That's about £150 and almost double what I gave him for mine.
Should I take them or just say thanks but no thanks? Hopefully Kent trim supplies come good and get these at a reasonable price!

Topjoe9 09-09-2015 02:40 PM

Please note I don't think these are gen ford and they came in a cardboard tube with no packaging. Cheers.

Topjoe9 09-09-2015 05:25 PM

Took the chance and ordered these. They will be around £150 a pair. I've tried him to discount me on the postage so maybe a little cheaper. I have 6 pairs coming home so get a pair reserved if you need them. I'm aware he has marked these right up from what I paid but Its a sellers market I suppose.

The usual story with some people, as soon as you have let him know that there may be others interested he wacks the price up!

Topjoe9 09-09-2015 05:49 PM

I know, I took the chance as I feel they are still affordable in a strange Cosworth kind of way!

R4N SS 14-09-2015 03:43 PM

i aint paying 150 a set for these - would run the car without for the time being

You say there about an inch longer!!
But they pop rivet to the car at each end besides double sided taped as well.
Any pics?

Topjoe9 14-09-2015 04:15 PM

Yes the lower part of the seal is slightly longer than the original but fit perfectly as they are or could be trimmed slightly. The profile fits the car perfectly.
They are expensive for what they are but they are as good as originals and one third of the price asked when they do come up for sale!
Pm me your email addresses if you are interested and want pics. Only 2 sets available, the rest have provisionally sold already.

Topjoe9 05-10-2015 08:17 PM

Still have 2 sets left, £120 per set to get rid of them if anyone is interested, pm me. Thanks
