4wd plenum
Anyone have an idea as to the level a 2wd plenum becomes restrictive and it's worth changing to the 4wd one. Also I think the small turbo escos one is the best but think it needs a bit of work to get it fitted, my car is planning on being stage 3 at some point and wondered if it was worth the expense to fit one
Thanks |
Go for it! why not add a spacer while its all off?
4 wd are better so ive been told, why would of ford changed them if they are any worse? |

From R&B Motorsport:
The OE inlet manifolds are limited to the following bhp (in the main due to the restrictive elbow NOT the throttle body, which will comfortably flow 650+bhp), 2wd = 430bhp 4x4 = 450bhp EECIV = 500bhp. |
why not just mod the restrictive elbow and then add a spacer plate ;) thats what ive done as not really worth all the extra expense some of the manifolds command

yes, you cut out the the restrictive bit of the elbow.
Below is a pic i found from Google - not mine as mine is a bit neater but it gives you an idea of what is needed ;) Add in a 14mm spacer and the inlet should be good enough to flow well over 500bhp http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...3-1376_IMG.jpg |
Dont get a spacer as they only do things worse. You want to lead the air behind the trumpets as it is here the trumpets suck from. The spacer only makes the situation worse, and it makes the engine less responsive as you get more plenumvolume.
I dont think the marginal gain of peak hp using the spacer is worth the price, modify your inlet like mine, or get a proper Hart one if you want to go bigger. The responsive gain on the modified however is HUGE. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...012/IMG110.jpg |
nixon, is this your plenum at the photo? Do you have the picture inside plenum?
|
if its only going to be stage 3 , i would nt bother changing tbh
|
yes that is my plenum, here you go.
modified 4x4: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...worth/mail.jpg std 2wd rubbish: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...rth/IMG111.jpg |
Sounds like its not worth me changing as not planning to exceed stage 3 spec, thanks for info though makes good reading
|
Been advised the same, unless your going for a bigger turbo than a t34 a spacer isn't really worth it....
|
Ive got a reyland 14mm spacer on a 4x4 inlet, not sure on how much i gained but it produced 410 lb/ft, imo its worth fitting one as theres definatly a gain in there somewhere. Cheap mod too
edited Unless of course your going to loose responce on the 34 |
nixon - thats how mine is modded too :top:
but ive also added a 14mm spacer as want more power at the top end. I had a std 2wd plenum on my old car running a harvey gibbs 400bhp/lbft engine |
