rs turbo conversion

hi, i have a mk6 ford escort 1.4 cvh and I am looking to swap the engine to a 1.6 turbo, was wondering if anyone could help me on what I would need part wise ? and general advice.
thanks.

Any reason for choosing a 1.6 CVH Turbo mate? They are not the most reliable engines these days, a Zetec turbo would be much more reliable, nicer to drive and more economical.

Just thought a swap from a cvh to another cvh would have been simpler, but I am open to options, what sort of work would go into a zetec turbo conversion ?

A 2.0 Black top will drop straight in using your current gearbox too, then a Focus RS manifold and turbo (plenty about for cheap on ebay etc.), then just chose your tuner and get what ever management they recommend.
What is your target BHP?

And not forgetting how deeps your pocket?

Karlos G 09-01-2014 12:42 PM

Yes! lol Target BHP and budget will help us point you in the right direction.

I want it as a project so the money side of things will not be a problem as I will be doing bits over time, obviously the sooner the better but don't want to rush things, and bhp was looking between the 300 and 400 mark.

You will need a zetec turbo to get that power. If your in essex have a look at some of our cars for ideas. Lots of people come over on Saturday to hang around and chat cars while others have work done. Your welcome to come see.

Fair enough wanting to throw lots of cash into a car only worth about £200. But wouldn't it be a better choice to consider saving the money you'd be putting into the car, and save for an Escort RS Cosworth???

I don't know how old you are, but this is something me and i'm sure many other have regret not doing instead of plowing(spelling?) lots of money into a run of the mill basic car.

At the end of the day it is your money, but its something to consider if its a long term project.

Sleeeppeerrrr!!!

For up to 350bhp this conversion works very well and doesn't cost that much either, for 400bhp then you'd need to build a forged engine.

I had exactly one of these. Mk6 gti looking car with cvh turbo cossie management mtx box. Car was awesome my mum would use it to go shopping. my girlfriend used it to work. And I used it to put cossies to shame.

Was featured by fast ford many years ago.

The 350 option seems like the way to go, I no my car is old and very basic but I love the thought of having a basic looking car that moves.

studabear 10-01-2014 09:23 PM

All good aslong as you can get the power down.

Do you still have that engine mate! I fancy 1 of these now!

Karlos G 10-01-2014 11:00 PM

I sold the whole car to a mate so I see it all the time but no I don't actually have it myself.
