koni adjustables 35 mm drop and it sits higher than no dropped springs??

why is this, put them on yesterday and my car sits well high? roughly 3inch gap from wheel to arch and its sitting on 17s?? really annoyed but it does handle loads better and is solid? anybody have any ideas why its so high?

mgtkr1 01-01-2012 11:40 AM

i dont really understand car suspension to well but im thinking if the springs are at there min preload, would this make the car sit high?

this is mine lowered on 30mm with koni adjustables, in the beginning it's always higher.
After a little drive it was lower already because i was jacked up at first, but in time it drops just a little more.
btw sorry for the huge picture , still new to photobucket and pictures in forums..

koni springs always seem to be high

Sjieter 01-01-2012 01:16 PM

i had koni -30, now eibachs -30mm and they are the same.
Another thing is it normal for the rear to always be higher than the front.
kind of bugs me.

Ade500 01-01-2012 01:43 PM

Sjieter looks mint mate

Turbosimpsons 01-01-2012 02:41 PM

Perhaps the springs you took off have sagged over the yrs they have been on.

luke19790_3 01-01-2012 02:48 PM

my konis were quite high, changed them for coilovers

for what its worth, i think it sits nice. better then been low at the rear/ high upfront. i think they need a few miles to bed from what i can gather.

wedge07 01-01-2012 07:21 PM

Ok well hopefully they will lower over time lol. I was thinking about putting my 18s on but may look over the top! Or rub.how much were your coilovers? N are they easy to fit?

luke19790_3 01-01-2012 07:41 PM

16inch max anything bigger and it doesn't handle so well

got my coilovers 2nd hand but still cost a bit, fit the same has konis apart from the rear springs

I read somewhere you have to weld new strut tops in for them? I have 17s now n was gonna put my 15s back on but will look stupid now lol. So what do u mean about the rear?

luke19790_3 01-01-2012 08:56 PM

fits with no mods

luke19790_3 01-01-2012 08:57 PM

no spring, that now sits on/in the coilover

wedge07 01-01-2012 09:31 PM

Ive seen gaz coilovers for around 600 does that seem right?

scrubby--rs 01-01-2012 09:56 PM

Rear always sits higher because of the rear anti roll bar will take a while to finally drop to 30mm just drive it about mate had 17s on mine handled badly lol

luke19790_3 01-01-2012 10:07 PM

you can 2nd hand gaz golds around £450

wedge07 01-01-2012 10:23 PM

I know i prefer 15s than these 17s. Might just put em back on.

Sjieter 02-01-2012 12:58 AM

i'm sticking to 15's too, tires are cheap too :DD:
@ade500 thanks mate means alot

johnnysash 02-01-2012 04:28 PM

I reckon your old springs were shagged. And I prefer 15's too, no clearance issues and you can still

wedge07 03-01-2012 05:58 AM

They have dropped alot more now. :) so ur prob right old springs were crap. So if they continue to drop 15s are defo go back on

mentalasanything 04-01-2012 12:27 PM

I have Koni Adjustables on the cabby, it doesn't sit as low as it did with the cheapy lowering springs that were on there but its evenly proportioned front/back and the ride is spot on.

As mentioned maybe the old springs were shagged.

aren't there turbo and non turbo spring kits?

wedge07 05-01-2012 05:34 AM

I cant imagine that mate. But i dunno. Old springs were alot softer i think. Its sitting nice and firm now. Feels loads better to drive :-)

On a mk4 they're the same, but as the Turbo sat a feww mm lower than the standard they're always listed separately as the measurements are different.

MK3's may be different due to the variations of strut tops.

kinda what I meant. surely a turbo in std form sits lower than a bonus. so some spring kits quote rst - 25 mm or escort mk4 -25mm. I got a 25mm koni kit on my s1 and sits like std IMO??? also seems little higher on front??? fucking shed.

This is how mine sits on Koni adjustables on 17's - problem i have is i am not sure about the springs as to what make they are - looks more than 35mm drop to me tho

Mine sits around 10 - 20 mm higher than that so i reckon urs are roughly 60mm?

wedge07 06-01-2012 02:48 PM

Same wheels as mine too ;-)

wedge07 06-01-2012 03:37 PM
