I believe the -31 has a lift pressure of about 8psi without pre load and a -34 has lift pressure of 14psi.

They operate using a spring which over time will weaken and not hold the boost pressure leading to a drop in performance.

You will probably be replacing like for like with a -31. I would use the Garratt version supplied, amongst others, by msd.

Just had a look. This would be fine. I think you can get some discount off that if you read the ads on the site banners for msd.

yeah as said above, a -31 is a Cosworth actuator and is slightly stronger and will hold boost better under load.

Thanks for the replies fellas , very helpful !

Its not that ive been advised to get one , its that im restoring the engine bay and engine ! As im going to be stripping down the turbo and repainting both the turbo and manifold , i noticed that the actuator looked a bit buggered so thought if i was to replace it i might aswell go for a modified one like the -31 ! Good plan ???

Thanks for the replies fellas you've been really helpful

Its not that ive been advised to get one by anyone . Its that im restoring the engine bay , including engine and box and ancillaries . As im going to be doing the turbo while the engine is out i noticed that the actuator looked buggered ! So i thought if i was to replace it i might aswell go for a modified one like the -31 . Good plan ????

Little bit of advice. There isn't a paint on the planet that will whithstand the heat of a turbo. Any paint you put of WILL flake off within a week. Ceramic coating or heatwrap is the only effective cover.

other than that yeah, a -31 actuator is a straight swap and doesn't have any adverse effects, just positives which is quite rare for a modification
