Hello people, the head on my 1988 rsturbo is getting a little tapperty and its starting to do my tree in, as the car is only lightly modified with the usual, chip, exhaust, airfilter and front mount the next logical area is the head!
so what should i go for? a stage 1 2 or 3? i dont really get what the different stages are so any explination would be great, and what comes with the different stages
again goes for the cams there are loads on market and then there are all the different models within each brand but what would be best for the engine ive got?
i dont mind rebuilding it myself as ive got all the tools i just need to get all the different parts together any other advice would be great!

stage 1 standard valves ported
stage 2 bigger inlet valves standard exhaust valves ported
stage 3 bigger inlet valves and bigger exhaust valves ported
NMS do good ported heads but there is a long waiting list > http://www.norrismotorsport.co.uk/index2.html
Also pumaracing is very good but yet again a long wait > http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/
Jamsport also do good heads and they usually have them in stock > http://www.jam-sport.co.uk/

so if i chucked on a stage 3 head id obviously be drawing in more air and getting rid of it quicker but would that then mean id need to uprate the turbo as well?

i think NMS are about Ł500
Pumaracing Ł650
Jamsport about Ł400
not much more you can do yourself next after the head and cam would be a bigger turbo something like a stage 2 hybrid 5th injector or a change to Efi management

Stage 1/2/3 different from different people, as thier view is different on what the stages are.
You could try DARREN at DAMICO, 01953 717784.
He is awsome with heads as that is all he has ever done, has flow rigs, engine dyno's etc , so unlike some his heads are not guesses.

if you had standard cam 7psi and a stage 1 head what kind of power increase would you expect obviously there would be less lag etc 5bhp???? i am still running origional cam at 120k should imagine its pretty worn so may replace the head.

thanks for all the replys people, looking at so many different options now lol!
EFI wise ive allready got the inlet, injectors and throttlebody. along with the map sensor and coilpack and ht leads.
got a price from cylinder head developments which seems quite reasonable and ive allways heard great things about the owner.
need to look at cams now, any recomendations, kent, piper, newman?
