evo4 what they like?
My best mate has bought one. here it is.

He gets 200 miles to a full tank, its hideously expensive to buy bits and replacement parts for. It goes like stink and he loves it and wouldn't swap it for anything in the world.

I was never a jap fan, but when he got it, he took me for a spin and I was seriously impressed with it. It pissed on my Saph which I wasn't expecting.
As long as you can manage the costs, its a great car.

like the evo though i am going to look at a few
They can be very good..
Have a look on the MLR, you need to check it's not suffering crankwalk, intermittent tappety noise from the top end will be the lash adjusters (they sorted this on the later cars and the newer ones are avialble for Ł100 for a set and are an easy DIY) check the AYC fuse is in place (near the battery) some people get AYC probs, remove the fuse (to disable it) and take the light out in the dash. Give it some hard'ish cornering on a test drive and flick the wheel left to right sharply in a straight line (you shouldn't hear any noise from the rear diff)
There's a few about with evo 6 engines in and this would be a good bet. The 4 engine isn't as good (capable of holding good power) as the 6 engine.
There was a silver one on ebay with an evo 7 engine the other day, I'd be on the lookout for one like it.
I've had a few with various states of modification, my favourite was standard chassis but with about 350bhp, that one was superb on our roads.
It makes a difference where it's bee tuned too (like anything) but I've had 1 with a 6 engine and loads of mods that made 353 on the dyno, and 1 (mentioned above) that had very few mods apart from power FC, hks filter, 3" exhaust and it made similar power but felt much faster on the road.

Is that just a confusing name for excessive crankshaft end float
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Evo sites are the only place I've heard it called that. As I say I'm pretty sure the Americans came up with the word and it's sort of stuck around the Evo world.
Go on the MLR and put in crankwalk and then you'll certainly hear a lot about it.

This is because Americans are the stupidest people ever to take an engine apart. They invent simplified names for everything. It's cos they're stupid, like, you need to go there to beleive it.
Worked for an American company for 3 years. Idiots, the lot of them
